The One is arguably the premiere DJ of Grime Music in the USA and on this mix he shows why this Oakland resident is making heads snap to Grime's urban sound. Grime music is a lot of times heavily MC laced (be it the tracks or live), but The One made it a point to show the instrumental genius behind the music by smacking an all Grime instrumental mix (minus the first track). The mix starts strong as The One laces us with an exclusive from arguably Grime's most champion of MCs, Wiley and then the mix moves into some bouncy, sure to get it hyphy Grime tunes around. "Fireburst" by Rachet is a killer track with killer synths and a snappin' clap that will surely get you bouncin' while on, "Stockwell Ridim" the bassline simply bleeds through the speaker electric! The beauty of the mix is also the way The One transitions between tracks. With such hard agressive beats the mix never looses any steam from tune to tune. My personal favorite standout cuts come at the end of the mix such as the untitled tune by Virgo which has a mean steppin' drum pattern in it, "Hold It Up" which samples the shit out of the Alchemist's "Hold You Down" (hip hop tune), The One's own co-produced (with MBZ) tune "Bats" and also the final cut "Shaolin Zen" which bass, haunting sounds and old kung fu movie samples caps off the mix just right! The One delivers the urban sounds of Grime on this mix, don't get caught sleeping on this mix from one of the best.

Dubstep! Dubstep! Dubstep!...it is a relatively new phenomenon stateside and SamXL is not only a heavy bass delivering DJ live, but on this mix he just shreds it! The jump off on this mix may kind of fool ya, as it is not "technically" Dubstep, but MC Wreck kills it lyrically over a sick 2-stepish beat, and thereafter SamXL puts a hurtin' on the sound system. The sound of "Blipstream" is a bass lover's dream track as the bass flutters, fluctuates and goes every which way while the drums in Digital's "Rum Creme" will get any lover of drum circles in a frenzy. The mixing of this mix is on point also, just check the mix between "Rum Creme" and "Anti-War Dub" for example as the sample rides the drums brilliantly. This mix is almost mixed like one would a deep house mix...simply deep drawn out mixes which keeps the interest in ever tune, every beat, every rhythm and every measure. This mix actually is more then just Dubstep as it mixes the elements of 2-step, ol' skool, early jungle, tribal rhythms (check the "Bury The Bwoy" rhythm) and reggae/riddims (check the "Flim" tune, boom). SamXL shows the diversity and influences of Dubstep even in it's infancy by giving us a wide range of Dubstep sounds. Top to bottom this mix never lets up and is refreshing as any person appreciating all elements of electronic music will see. The big sounds of Dubstep delivered by the big man SamXL!!!
