Guitar notes on Piano

Post by ENNO » Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:02 pm

Hey guys,

So I have a nice guitar melody ive written on the scale of E major, but I dont play piano. Ive heard of my friend talking about some software that lets you import guitar tabs to reason, anyone know anything about this? Or is there any other sort of software that would show me where the notes im hitting are on the piano?

Cheers!

You can try Widi if you have means of getting guitar signal thru to the computer.

If you export the Guitar Pro file as MIDI, then the file that appears wherever you save to, you can just drag and drop to the paino roll in Reason.

Or if you can't drag and drop then it's just a case of File> Import> MIDI or something like that.

It's not that hard. E is the white key right after the first two black keys that are next to eachother, the white key next to the other white key with no black key in between. Just go from there by counting the distances between each note.

if for any reason you can't do this with Guitar Pro, try Power Tab Editor: http://www.power-tab.net/guitar.php

it's free and it can also export MIDI.

You're an electronic music and you can't play piano? You should probably get on that.

I haven't gotten much of a chance to try to play piano except for the short time my old keyboard lived and for that one time in Guitar Center last week... I've mastered the QWERTY keyboard pretty well though lol.

I mean, I know theory, but I don't really have all the notes on the piano memorized yet (the placements), although it is much easier to play creatively than guitar... due to the easier octave spreading etc.

Well I'm not saying you have to be a piano virtuoso or anything, but at least basic knowledge is a must.

You're using a computer keyboard? I don't know how you do it. If you are short on cash, hit up some thrift stores or pawn shops. They usually have cheap old Casio's with MIDI capability. Then you just need a $5 MIDI->USB cable.

Thanks for all the help, the main problem I was having was marking the frets to the keyboard...such as a G# on the 12th fret and then trying to find that exact same note on my keyboard to play the same melody....But i have it sorted now...nice one peeps!!! :W:

I think your problem is that there isn't a G# at any 12th fret on the guitar unless you're using an alternative tuning (I doubt you are). Sure you know your guitar properly?
