Weʼd been marching for days, our minds plagued by an unsettling and persistent déjà vu as we reached the base of a great mountain and made camp. We awoke to our hysterical guide returning from the mountain trail, heralding the arrival of ten great beasts and their merciless riders who would devastate everything in their path. He bore an engraved tablet that detailed their terrible number:
