Sennheiser's Small Life

Post by brettheaslewood » Fri Sep 09, 2011 11:04 am

yes another headphone thread!

I got a pair of Sennheiser HD 25 SP II's back in January of this year, i've only been using them in the studio for the late night sessions and they're already fucked.

the wires seemed to have broken inside the only way i can get a sound out of them is if i move the wires slightly then lock my head in that certain position.

i would of thought from a well established company like sennheiser that this wouldn't of happened so quick?

considering on they're spec's it states "Tough, detachable OFC cable" i feel pretty annoyed.

this was my first investment in a decent pair of headphones, so I don't know if this is supposed to be the case but 8 months life? REALLY? :x

anyone else had this problem? or can you make any suggestions to a pair that have decent life and represent a true sound?

/rant :u:

I feel for you man that's a real shitter. I've got the same cans and I think a connection became a tad loose in mine but the problem seemed to go away, i may be mistaken but isn't there a year garuntee on them ? I use mine all the time for late night sessions and for DJing and home listening so i'm very wary of the same thing happening.

I`ve had my Sennheiser DJ headphones for close on 7 years now.
They are only loosing the covering on the foam ear pieces.
Maybe just a bad set?
They`re a good company.

I've sent them an email of complaint so im waiting for a reply from them to see what they have to say before i go claiming warranty.

nice idea nowaysj, but when your paying £130 odd i shouldn't have to labour over them, shoulda been done for me haha

@electric_head - i agree with you that they're are a good company, and i havn't been quick to say 'they're shit, par off dem' i'm just abit guted y'know.

I hear your pain dude.
You pay good money, the last thing you expect is for them to break in under a year.

i had the same problem this week.. id suggest tieing stickytape around the L and R wires right where it connects into the cans.. just so the wires never bend there. this is the part that seems to get damaged on most headphones. luckily iv just replaced the wires on my hd650s.. still bit of a wounder but im happy tht they designed these cans with detachable wires that just plug and play. im gona do the stickytape trick just so it doesnt happen again.

i just made a loop in the wire and made sure it was tight, obviously not good for the wire but at least it plays out of the left ear now.

it'll do untill hopefully i get another set

Not choice but it'll do, glad it's solved. Unbelievable after making a track today I think somethings up with my right can! can't fucking believe it, i'm hoping it'll pass again, if not i'm also sending an angry email this is bullshit.

I've had some 280' for about a year now.
I've never had a problem with em but I have a lifetime warranty money back/new pair from the place I got them.

I've had shitty 15 dollar refurbished headphones for 2 years, fine.

So I would just say its a defective pair probably?

Where'd you get yours from?

I have the exact same problem with mine, I've had my pair for about a year now. Sometimes the sound cuts off in one of the ears and I have to make sure the internal wiring is straight. It's pretty annoying, but I did get my pair for the cheapest source on the net (I paid 125USD for them, saved me about 50 bucks), so I have to say I had it coming.

Stuff isn't built to last these days, it's built to fail or be replaced with the new models

General of course, there are still quality products being made, just not as much.

Sony headphones have the same "problem", but was never addressed. There was whole class action lawsuits going on with people whose MDR headphones would break one after the other.
I still have my MDRv700 and they are in rough shape after only 4 years or so, and I have babied them from day one. Even have their own case. Second pair, the first ones died within a few months. Actually I bought another pair but they were defective so I traded them back in for these I keep in the case.

My sonys have lasted over a decade, that black shit that covers the foam on the ear pads is like flaking off, and will leave black shit on your ears after you've been wearing them, my family makes fun of me after I've used them, I'll be walking around with black flaky ears... NEWAY, they've always worked flawlessly, and give a fantastic image of the high end. These are my check for distortion and zero crossings and little schnips that can mess your stuff up.

DTs were getting fucked all the time where I studied sound production, thankfully mine are still ok though...
