I have spoken with a bunch of people in the tech world who use the PC Emulator... supposedly it's markedly better than it used to be and a fluid transition from OSX to XP with one keystroke.

I have not personally tried it yet myself though.

hmm, im not that familiar with acid. though, im sure that sony would be on top of it, considering that acid only runs on windows.

Vista is fairly solid, but just annoying as fook. And yeah, audio drivers can be a buggy. It's basically XP with added "security features" and more gui nonsense. I bought my dad an acer notebook recently that shipped with vista. Scrapped it and installed XP, is running like a champ. But yeah, if you can afford it, the macbooks are slick. If you're not into Logic, I recommend giving Live a shot. I went from Acid to Live and found it rather simple to learn and appreciated a lot of its features. Live 6 on Mac is the shit. Oh, also, Parallels windows emulator for Mac is extremely solid. Hope that helps!

olds just got a new pc with vista, seems to go alright as long as you've got enough RAM... would like to know if it is buggy with any audio editing programs (reason, cubase).. fruity 7 works fine on it tho

Running Live 6 on Vista with at least 100 VST's, and only having a problem with one of them. I really didn't want Vista, but were charging more for a build with XP, so I went for it and it's not as bad as some made it out to be. Turn off all the stupid bells and whistles (aero interface, etc), and it'll run fine. Most new PC's will not have any problem running this OS. Vista Basic may be a good deal for some...it's just a security pumped up XP, and have much lower requirements than the other Vista versions.

Vista seems sorta stable for music production, got 2gb ram, wouldnt wanna go vista with less.

Dont install vista if youre a gamer. My BF2 looks like frikkin sawtooth waveforms 50% of the time. Oh noes.

rumour has it sony vaio sales went down 20% since adopting vista

A friend switched over to vista, his soundcard still has no drivers doe it... been 2 months.

I'm running an old PC laptop but will consider a MacBook running XP, if the laptop suddenly needs replacing...

slightly off topic: if you run XP on a Mac, do you still get the benefits of Core Audio stability i.e. no hassle with plugging / unplugging usb controllers etc. Does anyone know? ta.

Had stupidly slow performance using Vista, but I followed some instructions here (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 605,00.asp) and my PC has sped up a hell of a lot, although the interface isn't as pretty :) Seems like a lot of programs were running unneccesarily in the background and the flashy graphics were eating up CPU/memory/whatever.

Still not happy with the lack of drivers (brand new M-Audio audiophile soundcard has been unusable since I installed it due to the lack of Vista driver) but fingers-crossed that drivers will be released over the next few weeks or months.
