"if it wasnt for brostep"

Post by Dataloss » Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:32 pm

i would have never discovered Drum and Bass, or any other "Real" dubstep.
for that i am ever thankful to "Brostep"

(kind of a lil jab at the brostep haters)

I too discovered real dubstep and dnb this way. I like a little bit of brostep, but stuff like, Loefah, Goth trad, and Kryptic Minds have since become my favorites.

You gotta realize why some people are so against brostep though. All the culture, and the entire sound itself has been lost and taken over <25 kids thinking they know everything about dubstep. I try to take a middle ground on the debate, but I lean to the "real" dubstep side of things.

Agreed. A lot of these people don't have any clue about what dubstep even is or where it comes from. I've even heard people say that it's just slowed down dnb...

I personally got into dubstep through stuff like Benga, Skream etc., no Skrillex or Doctor P back then. I did get into Excision and Rottun stuff for a while though. Early Rottun stuff reminded me of Scorn and it had a heavy industrial vibe to it, now it's all heavy wobble shit with lame ass gangsta rap samples.

I got into Dubstep, DnB, Bassmusic in general when I heard Caspa's remix of Where's my Money. ^^
I'm so freaking thankful I discovered those styles of music.

nope, it was certain infamous cotti + cluekid dubs that drew me in. I then ran into a brick wall of UKF bullshit while trying to satisfy my thirst for more dubstep. It intrigued me for all of about 5 seconds.

i too take the middle ground,
in reality its the extremist/ignorant who create the arguement. if you meet a Datsik, skrillex fanatic, do us all a favor dont call them stupid, or that they dont have any idea what theyre talkin about (albeit true) instead, say "ye thats cool bro (lol) check out this shit **hands him a "real dub" mix**

without the exposure they never have a chance.
fact of the matter is, theyre oppinions, misconstrued as facts.
lets unite rather than fight.
Were almost pullin bigger crowds than the house DJ's what the fuck are we fighting about // :u: :4:

There's a lot of house that's better than a lot of brostep, and i'm not talkin about trance or shit like that.
As for exposure... just google "dubstep" :W:

You don't have to be stupid to create bad music.
well now your crossin genres and those waters get a little murky.. but its all EDM.
but yes i completely agree, i love house, fidget electro, thats what i mainly spin. .
theres good bad and ugly, everywhere in this world. people stand to far to the left or right..

I misread what you said earlier, so i edited my post.
I agree it's not the best thing to compare genres, but seriously, a lot of house or house-ish tunes today sound more rooted in the whole "bass music scene" than brostep, like the stuff Futureboogie or Night Slugs are pushin.

I'm still never going to understand why someone would listen to music that suppose to sound "disgusting" or "filthy".....I mean if your watching 2 girls 1 cup then yeah thats suppose to be disgusting, but why would someone want to hear noises manipulated to sound gross and filthy, just the whole concept is so fucking weird.

RHYTHM > FILTHY

only a handful of producers can make harder rhythmic tunes these days

*oppinion
which ur entitled to.
INMHO it depends on the situation theres a time and place for everything

^ you take the word filthy too literal, if you should fiind yourself on the west coast(my only experiences) at a dub show, 4 hours in, bass still shaking the floor, and everyone in the fucking place is still losing their minds, youll understand why we love it filthy, its the raw, energy that the crowd feeds off of. dont knock it till you try it.
