Re: Hide Your Sources
Banksy is a full on ledge, I've got a 2 by 2 meter print of this on my living room wall:

And his book 'wall and piece'. Really thought provoking shit. My favorite contemporary artist by far, shits on kathy whats her name and Damian Hurst.
Its a shame culture has robbed him of his anti hero status and he's now inadvertently become part of what he was so intrinsically opposed to. Same thing that caused Kurt to blow his face off.

Too many people misunderstand this quote.
Re: Hide Your Sources
That Picasso never said that, but did steal ideas?
Re: Hide Your Sources
Dude... no... thats not what happened... if he wanted to be anti-hero or shadowy or whatever, he wouldnt have made himself so amazingly easy to market to trendy, counter-culture youth, he wouldnt go to the lengths he does to make the press, wouldnt have made a feature length film about himself, ect.Turnipish Thoughts wrote: Its a shame culture has robbed him of his anti hero status and he's now inadvertently become part of what he was so intrinsically opposed to. He loves the attention, i promise, this is not a depressing or suicide inducing thing, its cool that modern art, as in the youth of today, is so widely accepted it gets serious gallery showings.
Re: Hide Your Sources
I find it a bit hypocritical to go on a rant about the mainstream taking advantage of his art or whatever but buying a giant print of his work to hang in your living room.Teknicyde wrote:Dude... no... thats not what happened... if he wanted to be anti-hero or shadowy or whatever, he wouldnt have made himself so amazingly easy to market to trendy, counter-culture youth, he wouldnt go to the lengths he does to make the press, wouldnt have made a feature length film about himself, ect.Turnipish Thoughts wrote: Its a shame culture has robbed him of his anti hero status and he's now inadvertently become part of what he was so intrinsically opposed to. And Teknicyde, Banksy didn't make a movie about himself. Have you watched Exit Through the Gift Shop? If not, you should check it out. It's pretty good.
Banksy wants attention for his art or, more specifically, the message his art conveys. I'm not a huge fan of his but I think he's a pretty decent guy with a hell of a lot more integrity than most.

he was on the news here and theres an unbelieveable hype in berlin. but i don't know man, most of the stuff i've seen on his website is either just kinda cool if you saw it on the streets and didn't know who made it, or it's stuff that you could print on t-shirts and sell it to teenagers so they too can know what it feels like to be a REBEL for only 24,99$ per shirt!
it's kinda cool but uh... why are we having a thread about that guy?

half of it was fiction man, I think youd have had to live in the U.S. to catch that, and yeah, banksy did the final screenwriting.
And yeah thats what I was going on about, he's not this tragic gonna kill himself because he got widespread acceptance sort of artist.
Re: Hide Your Sources
Banksy, admittedly, got me started in street art. Im not a fan of his personality but his work speaks volumes.
<keep it heavy>
Re: Hide Your Sources
All of Banksy's stuff is a copy of this old French guy. Can't remember his name, but it may be worth watching this:Turnipish Thoughts wrote:Banksy is a full on ledge, I've got a 2 by 2 meter print of this on my living room wall:
