Any tutorials for old-styled dubstep basslines

Post by Nantes » Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:47 am

Im fairly new to making music but im pretty decent with Reason 5 and im learning FL Studio 10. I try to find good tutorials on Youtube for creating some good basses, but all i find are "filthy" or "dirty" kind of basses. I'm not a big fan of that kind of dubstep. Anytips on how to get basslines similiar to those of Benga, Skream, older Caspa & Rusko, Kromestar, or even some postdub guys like Jamie XX and Mount Kimbie, on Reason 5 and FL Studio. I don't mind if i have to download some separate VST's for FL Studio either. Thanks in advance!

really just play around in your synths. You'll get a feel for it...there really isn't any set path to get Benga sounds or anything.

If you need any help along the way, feel free to add me on AIM.
...in my opinion

old style basslines focus on the depth of the sub. you can choose to use a pure sine wave, but its hard to add flavour to it. what i do is take a filth patch like datsik and turn the frequency cutoff low, so you only hear the sub frequencies. it has more movement and tone and sound to it because the patch is just made into sub, and it sounds more complex than pure sine.

hope this helps

Put through reverb and highpassed, then layered with less-overdriven sines.
