Sennheiser HD-280

Gettin a pair of these HD 280's ordered in at JB-HIFI for $200 AU for listening pleasure and production temporarily while i save for studio monitors...

Good purchase? Shit purchase? Decent phones? anyone got a pair?

Got mine for 80 USD. They're good, but do get uncomfortable after a while.

Also, the plastic on the band breaks, QUICK. Try taping it up tight to keep it from disintegrating and preserving it.

They're fucking horrible to wear, but they complain in all the right ways if you overdo the bass.

I love them and hate them, especially on hot summer nights.

i got the hd280 pro's and i wouldnt recommend them for production. Very bland, uninformative midrange and tops albeit with good bass... great phones for dj'ing though.

wicked headphones, I love mine to bits - but yea the plastic on the underside of the headband does snap way too easy. Couldn't recommend them for production though really, why not look at something from AKG or Beyerdynamic instead?

Agreed, they're not very balanced, and the build could be sturdier.

Although I must be in the minority because I think they're actually quite comfortable!

add me to this list. i use the HD 280's and they're very comfortable.

then again, i have a real big head and these phones are the only ones that seem to fit.

I use them also. They are very comfortable to me. They have 32 dB of isolation attenuation, so you won't hear somebody sneaking up on you while you play music.

They are a little bit bright in the upper midrange, but not so much as to sound band. They have a wide frequency response, but I've read research that says that no type of headphones is designed to be flat. I think some of the bass is hyped on these headphones, but I'm not entirely sure.

Regardless of the lack of flat response, these headphones make music sound good and they keep out outside noises. They are also loud. I used mine connected directly to my soundcard without an amplifier.

i've used mine for a bit now, they are comfortable if i'm sitting down in a chair, but i wouldnt want to wear them dj'ing... they're kinda heavy. nothing on mine have broke yet, but they do flatten the top of my hair in a wierd way though.. hehe.
definitely save for monitors though, you cant trust just one pair of headphones for producing.

I agree. I have the 280's and use them mostly for DJing which them work great for. They are very solid and block out the sound you don't want getting in real well but when I use them for production my tracks get too bass heavy as they leave a bit to be desired in the low end. I used the Beyerdynamic DT770's and they are about the flatest headphones I have heard, they are top notch for production in my opinion.

beyerdynamics are badass.

I have always found sennheisers are really difficult to drive, resulting in cranked systems and ear fatigue.

cheers for all the replies all... decided im gunna buy em tonight, figured as long as they sound nice im happy, gunna need monitors for true sound anyways.. little worried bout the band cracking/snapping tho.

I had a pair for 4 years which just died, preparing to order a second set straight away. I used them for DJ'ing more than production, but found them great listening headphones as well, with them being circumaural.
