Is the music industry a reflection of a corrupt society

Post by xarcane » Wed Sep 28, 2011 12:00 pm

You've probably seen Bieber as a 12-year old singer-songwriter busking on the street with his guitar, you've probably seen Stephanie Germanotta a.k.a Lady Gaga, and no doubt you've seen Gwen Stefani slide into the toilet bowl, but I think this takes the cake.

Take a talented 11-year old composer (performance at 1:48)

Add 2 years, so at age 13.

She's doing that at 13? Can't wait to see what she does later on.... add 3 more years at age 16

Oh.... Hello Kelly Clarkson. She hasn't quite sold her soul yet, but I get the feeling that in 2 years there's gonna be an annoying new super-popstar and it's gonna be her.

Indeed she 'evolved'. Other cases of evolution

Artists have changed their direction. Is that your point?

If you can't hear it in the music, all of her 'evolution' is inherent in the titles of the music. From

'Seasons of the Rose'

to

'Akashic Tango'

to

'Hooked'

Still not getting what your point is. Are you saying that artists aren't allowed to do this kind of thing?

Trying what? You were referencing her song titles, weren't you?

we all got the point without listening to the music, but yet, we still don`t care.

evolution is a part of everything, big surprise.
The fact that you`re soo hung-up on this style of music`s shitty evolution is troubling.

People grow up to make pop music = corrupt society

Flawless logic bro, i'm sure you must've spent weeks formulating this idea in your head.

Allow yourself wub, you're not a good troll. If I want to troll I will make the argument go on for days. And pop music along the lines of 'baby, baby, ooh' and 'if i was a rich girl, i'd have all the money in the world' is not art. Once they do that they're not simply going in a new artistic direction, they've stopped making art, and that's a shame.

This is your intrepretation though. Do you begrudge an artist for placing commercial viability over 'art' when given the opportunity?

Yes people put commercial viabbility over art is wrong, perhaps not from an individual perspective, but for the whole of humanity. Well that's the general gist of what I'm saying. Human potential is being truncated by the system in which we now live - in all areas. You have the potential to mke a good sturdy table for people to use, use make a cheap shit one so they have to buy another one in five years, etc. It takes place across the whole of industry and the the artistic spectrum not just in music. It's a sign of a deeper malaise.

It's been going on like that for a while and we're still here.
