ABOUT THE.TWO FIFTEENS
Do you hear that low bassline traveling deep from the Golden Coast?
That’s just The Two.Fifteens blowing out speakerboxes with their
hybrid sound. With a shared appreciation for West Coast Hip-Hop, Dub,
Fela Kuti, Mannie Fresh, and classic film soundtracks, these brothers
have always dug the idea of experimentation in groove.

You could say that the love and appreciation of varying styles of
music is in their blood, seeing as their mother reps Los Angeles by
way of Louisiana, while their father is from New York by way of the
Sierra Leone. Their parents also helped sow the musical buds within
Andrew and Abe, having the brothers study music early on, enrolling
them in a New Media technical arts programs at Crenshaw High in LA,
and helping them land jobs in high school that helped them purchase
their first pieces of gear such as the Yamaha DJX, Korg Triton
Workstation and Sound Forge – all things that lead to them producing
original tracks, remixes and mixes during their off-time in college.

Their early output caught the ears of few tastemakers; and their
remix work started getting picked up by other forward thinking DJs and
bloggers. However, before the two could truly capitalize on this
success, the brothers hit a few bumps in the road that lead to a brief
hiatus from releasing material that, in hindsight, was a blessing in
disguise. Their time under the radar birthed a shift in their musical
direction that began to open doors in their sound, leading to more
experimentation in their tracks. The Two. Fifteens claim that this new
sound, which is a truly unique hybrid sound, which wears the Dub
aesthetic on its sleeve while still providing danceable grooves and
head-nodding beats, is “a result of embracing memories of driving
hours to school back and forth everyday and constantly switching the
radio along the way”. The sound also draws inspiration from Los
Angeles car culture, “where cats want you to hear what’s coming
out of their speakers from blocks and miles away”.

From late 2008 to now, the pair have been slowly leaking music that
showcases the truly awesome riddims that they have been crafting on
the low, in preparation for their new project, "Effective When Used
After", which clocks in at just over a half-hour, and will be the flag
in the ground: one can only hold onto such captivating music for so
long. Their use of rhythm, the blending of sound(s)… it’s future
music for free thinkers. Abstract trunk rattlers for those who grew up
on DJ Quik and DJ Rupture. Take off the tie, get your hands dirty, and
really EXPERIENCE sound. American culture is melting and flowing into
itself anyways, why not have a
proper soundtrack for this mashed-up life? The Two. Fifteens help
answer to all of those questions, although the more questions get
answered, the more questions are born…
