Dark Souls

Post by collige » Sun Oct 09, 2011 4:17 am

Anyone playing this? I don't think I've ever played a game that's so good and yet so infuriating at the same time. Only real complaint I have with it besides the difficulty is the shitty framerate.

I've watched people play it and honestly can't understand the hype.

if you're used to playing games on hard mode this game isn't as brutal as some people are giving it credit for.

It's a pretty decent game and a decent challenge... i just don't think the general public is used to hardcore mode games

Haven't gotten that far yet (I'm stuck at the dragon on the bridge), but from what I've seen it's just past the boar fight.

It's not the difficulty of individual challenges that makes it hard, it's the enitre design of the game. Sparse checkpoints + limited healing + enemy respawning + punishment for death = lots of stress. I've played plenty of hard games, but none of them hated me as much as this one.

Not in the slightest. DMC is just a difficult action game, this is a full blown non-linear RPG.

yeah I grew up playing NES games where every other game had no continues, no check points, no saves, no passwords

Gamers these days are pussies.

You just have to play this game very conservatively and pace yourself

Not how far you've progressed since your post, but there's one literally right behind the dragon. You also get a shortcut back to the first bonfire that lets you go back and forth really easily.

I did that for Sonic 2. Still never beat it.

I would usually just play through the whole game in a few hours :P But seriously what were they thinking :)

right i've gotten up to the Anor Londo level and am fighting ornstein and smough. Up until now my frustration with the game has been rare, now im doing this :u:

I do still worship this game though. I just love the fact that the discovery of the world and the content it offers feels genuine, your not holding hands with some gps mini map guiding you.

Bought this today as I thought i'd better buy at least -one- game this year!

Its WOW! I was watching loads of streams on it when it came out (twitch.tv is GREAT for seeing how a game plays before buying it btw!) and I am not disappointed in the slightest.. I went for a sorc at first, thought that was a bit too hard then went for the bandit- thought i twas to slow for my playing style and now settled for the hunter.

The firebombs are doing my head in! Haven't quite sussed parrying yet either.

Your starting class matters less and less as the game goes on since you can upgrade your stats however you want. A couple words of advice though:
-Get the Master Key as your gift since you can get every other gift somewhere in the game
-Learn pyromancy. It will absolutely destroy most bosses once you get past Blighttown.

Completed it twice now. Definitely best game I've played in 2011.
It's just amazing. Absolutely loved Demon's Souls but this one topped that for me.

Gaping Dragon is extremely easy btw. As blocking won't help one bit go two handed and basically what you have to do the entire fight is walk in giant circles around it, then wait for it to lift it's body up, do a body slam and charges forward. As soon as he's done charging run up to the dragon and do a couple of hits then back off. Rinse and repeat. This really is one of the easiest bossfights in the game.

There's a couple of things to look out for though: Watch out for his legs while he does his charging move, if they hit you when he does that they will do alot of damage. Also his tail attack is quite damaging so your first objective would be to attack his tail a couple of times till you cut it off, when that's done there's really nothing to worry about.

If you keep having problems with it I'd suggest to just look up some videos on youtube. EpicNameBro's channel is really the best channel there is for Dark Souls videos btw.
