Post by wub » Fri Oct 14, 2011 7:53 am

unless you meant vinyl, no, fuck that shit.

Sorry, Is this something you've asked a promoter and what they've replied with?

Nope, just something someone else asked him. I just stumbled across the response.

The not having turntables, fair enough.

But calling anyone who uses them either homophobe. or old people...begs belief.

wasteman dj. i opened for salva about a month ago. everyone besides myself played either cdjs, abelton, or serato. i played all strictly vinyl, and the sound out of this gorgeous system was like night and day with my vinyl vs. the other mediums used. it was so different, that the dancefloor only became dense and thick during the time I played my set because the sound was so much better, and i know that doesn't sound very humble but it was true. the guy is an idiot who has no clue what he's going on about. not surprised it came from an american. still buying and playing vinyl proudly. i use serato as well, but i have well over 3000 plates in my collection and spend roughly 200-300 dollars on records a month. i do this because i know the shit sounds great, and it keeps some aspect of culture still ingrained in a medium used with performing live.

i still get booked frequently as a vinyl dj- for instance im opening for daedelus on the 28th of october here, and i was the first person announced on the bill besides daedelus. i have some of my own tunes I am going to play which will be in mp3 format which i will play on serato. but for the most part it will all be vinyl... on a disgusting sound system. can't wait. most often people compliment me because i still use vinyl as a dj. i have yet to hear anything negative about it from others.

Think this exchange sums up the guys attitude...
CALLING ALL DJs - BOOKING!!!

Keep in mind most of the paying and higher paying slots are already most likely taken, and you will be expected to pull a large amount of heads and promote like crazy if you are expected to be paid, oh and if your set blows we will not pay you, just a heads up.

Fill out this form accurately and the sooner, the better:

DJ name:
Genre(s) you/they spin:
facebook page:
soundcloud/mixcloud/mixes url:
amount asking to be paid:
timeslot wanted(7pm-4am):
Someone responds...
DJ name: [DJ gives name]

Genre(s) you/they spin: [DJ lists genres]

facebook page: facebook.com

soundcloud/mixcloud/mixes url: soundcloud.com

amount asking to be paid: $80

timeslot wanted(7pm-4am): anytime thats considered primetime (11pm-2am)
OP responds back...
amount asking to be paid: $80
i appreciate your humour mate, but aint lookin to pay that much,
Then, when called on his attitude towards DJing/promotion/payment;
i dont get butthurt lol dont worry, if i offended you its whatever sorry im not a 30 year old promoter throwing raves for money like half the other dudes. i do it for the music!

Moreover, if his night is shit it's the fault of the DJs, and therefore he won't be paying them.
