Am I the only one who just doesn't get Burial and Hyperdub?

Post by Cornbreadddd » Sun Oct 16, 2011 6:15 am

I've tried so so hard. I really have. There are a couple tunes that I can listen to the whole way through without changing, but overall I really just don't feel 95% of burial's stuff or any of the Hyperdub artists. It seems that everyone and their brother's fishes original owner consider these guys legends, and I'm not denying that at all, they definitely have talent and I appreciate their music, however I just don't feel it. Someone please explain to me what I am missing. What is so moving about Burial and the Hyperdub crew. Am I the only one here?

EDIT: Also if you could post some of your favorite tunes that might help me get into them more I would appreciate it.

No. You and all your bros. There are many Burial threads here, use the search function if you only want to see videos. Or go on YouTube. Once you're sucked in to the Burial vortex, there's really no bad tunes, except maybe the Thom Yorke ones. Even people tolerate those. All Burials are minimal, no drops, no midrange cack. Lots of space. It's an emotional-altering music. We can't tell you what you're missing, our experience may be the same when we listen to his music but you won't get it until you're in the bubble. Same with HDB really.

It's music you're supposed to enjoy it and if you don't listen to the stuff that you do.

Just thinking about it now, even if you take Burial out of the equation then Hyperdub still has a diverse back catalogue of quality single and album releases.

very much so. hyperdub was my favourite label for years and I only bought my first burial record this year (street halo).

2008-2009 were amazing.

its okay if you don't like it listen to what you like. here are some tunes i really like on hyperdub.

that are 4 of my favourites tunes atm on hyperdub but there are much more other good tunes.
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

surely this is like saying "I don't like sausages/purple/the smell of cut grass, can you make me like it?"

there's nothing wrong with just not feeling something. people's tastes differ.
