How to make drop heavier?
First off, a note for mods: I am aware of the feedback forum provided, but I believe this post to be a question of the nature of production, as I'm looking for help, not feedback. That being said, I would appreciate it if you left this topic where it is, at your discretion.
So, I'm working on my first remix ever (a remix of Gucci Gucci by Kreayshawn) and I'm insanely proud of it. I think it's one of my best productions to date. Only thing is, the drop is weak, and I'm not happy about it. I want the drop to hit and be dirty, Rusko/Caspa/Skream style, and it's just not hitting. I don't know what I need to do to it, and I've tried a lot of things, nothing sounding any better. Here's the track, the drop in question being at the 1:53 mark. Again, I'm not looking for critique on the tune (though feel free to critique it on the soundcloud), just looking for what I'm doing wrong on the drop, so it's not hitting as hard as I'd like.

Re: How to make drop heavier?
Its a good idea to use the synths in rising pitches towards the drop. But try adding a louder rising white noise. The kick sequence before the drop (b b b b b b b bbbbb) is too quiet. That being said; the main reason the drop isn't big enough is because i cant even hear the kick drum on the first beat of the drop, or any part of the song. put your kicks on a separate track, bump up bass freqs with eq and lower the threshold of the compressor just a bit under the peak of the kick. When you bus that; just compress the drums/raise volume by gain/limiting, whatever. I cant hear the drums. the MAIN part of ANY drop is the first KICK/CYMBAL, and then whatever. its like an explosion, and i cant hear the first beat because its swallowed by the bass. Great song imo.
Re: How to make drop heavier?
Thank you :] So just basically level out the drum/synth volume?
Re: How to make drop heavier?
everything nikolay said for sure. also try reversing a crash just before the first beat of the drop. it makes for a really nice short rising effect that'll transition nicely into a normal crash if you choose to use one on the first beat
Re: How to make drop heavier?
definitely need a punchier kick! and add a crash every 1, 3, and 4 bar. sick tune btw
Re: How to make drop heavier?
Have not actually listened to the original track so could be some way off... but the KEY attribute for a heavy/potent/effective drop usually is contrast.
Abstrakt.
Come check out my fothermucking soundcoud:
Something TOTALLY different. Really enjoyed this badboy and the melodies.
