Tips and tricks for production

Post by AntheK » Wed Oct 19, 2011 8:37 pm

Heya guys! ( my first post on this forum :) )
I would like to have a few tips on how to keep a duBstep track "linear" (But not too much oBv...)
I mean, I often have synths/Bass in my sets that don't match together... How can I fix it ? Any tips to avoid future proBlems with it ?

Cheers from France!

welcome! easiest way in my opinion is to use similar waveforms, and processing (distortion, reverb, etc.) between patches. A patch that you can tweak a few knobs to produce different sounds is good because you can automate between the sounds to make them sound a bit more natural next to each other.

Probably more of a mix issue. Properly applied reverb/EQ can make all the elements of a track gel together much more nicely.

A fun thing to do is change the sound to something rather different but keep the same lfo pattern and phrasing, or mix the sounds into one phrase for a few bars then make the phrase all the new sound.

It also helps a lot if you send all your bass sounds to a bus and apply some subtle compression and reverb. This really gels them together! ;)
