MPD32 Drum Sampler Workstation HELP

Post by axumite » Mon Oct 24, 2011 6:37 pm

i am getting an mpd32 and want to be able to drag and drop samples (.wav/.aiff) to individual pads and control the following parameters:

1) ASDR
2) sample length start/finish
3) pitch
4) straight/reverse
5) sample select? maybe?

I have reaktor and ableton live, i also have maxforlive. not sure if reaktor is necessary or if ableton drum racks will allow me to do this. i want the parameters to lock as soon as i touch another pad, so i can use the same 8 cc knobs to control the above parameters for each individual sample. Tried using impulse, it can do a lot of this but i'm not sure how to set it all up.

any help/links/suggestions would be much appreciated!

It sounds like you want a drum rack, once you drop a sample into it it will show up in an instance of simpler which will allow you to control all of those parameters, thats what i use for my MPD16. Im not sure about having the knobs control parameters for only the last sample played I think this is what you want

http://www.ableton.com/answers/midi-map ... s-possible

Basically just have each pad move focus to the simpler instance that its set to trigger, when you have focus the knobs will only affect that instance of simpler.

thanks that helps a a start, but is there a way to specify what controls will be focused and to which knobs? like if i want my 8 cc knobs to automatically control:
1) start
2) length
3) loop
4) attack
5) release
6) sustain
7) decay
8) transpose

Check out the section on simpler in the manual, it will explain where all of those controls are. Then when you find the control you want to map just turn on midi mapping (ctrl-m/cmd-m) click on the control then turn the knob you want to sync up with that contol. Once you have them all assigned you should be able to save the simpler as a preset, I dont know for sure if that will save all of the midi mappings so test it out before doing a lot of work with it.

You can also set that instance of simpler to be the default instrument used by drum racks, so every time you drop a sample into the rack it will load up with those midi mappings.

I hope that makes sense. I'm not at my production comp so I cant try it out, but that should be what your looking for.

There are alot of different ways of achieving close to what you need but im not sure if you can have it so that the midi will control only the last triggered sampler in the drum rack (although that would be great). I use the different midi channels 1a - 16a (easy to change on the MPD) then each channel has midi for the specific pad then get the 128's rolling and your on your way...except then you have to learn to finger drum...make some space in your bedroom and clear your calendar!! If any1 is interested i would like to try sharing organized drum racks with good samples and MPD32 midi templates PM ME!!!!!.
