chess

Post by tuckerlinen » Tue Oct 25, 2011 5:06 pm

My dealer was over the other day and noticed my chessboard on the table
He said that he loved the game and asked if I would like to play
I said sure, positive that I'd beat him
he's a great big fellow and I thought that my certain victory would balance the scales a bit
He stomped me
Totally crushed me

Anyone else dabble in chess?

planning to do so. i think theres a good reason people kept playing chess for so long over the course of history. need to find people to play with first tho.

not that related but i really wanna get a new rubiks cube too, i used to be very good at them.

my old roomie and I used to play almost daily
we both improved a great deal from the practice

the best part was naming the 'strategies' we were utilizing

'oh, I see you're employing the old iron jester defense... very clever, very clever indeed'

Just played about 4/5 games on the easiest mode of chess titans and lost every one. I came REALLY close to winning on the last game but alas i fucked up! I've never beat chess titans even on the easiest mode.

I'm not surprised a drug dealer beat you in game of strategy, memorization, and foresightedness. You also would have lost at Monopoly, Life, & No Limit Hold Em. :W:

I have a mate who's great at chess, I mean seriously good. We were at the pub one night and this weirdo sits next to us outside and starts talking pretty much nonsense. After a while he starts talking about chess and some how winds up having a game with my mate, WITHOUT A BOARD. They were just playing in their heads "Rook to D5 etc" it was insane to watch. My mate started saying "oh you're using the such and such opening" etc, unbelievable skills...

I, on the other hand, am rubbish

I love to play chess, unfortunately there's not many people to play. My mates who do play are all sick and destroy me :(

To be honest the pace is just boring for most people. That's why you only see old men playing it, or savants who can crunch numbers but can't brush their own teeth.

Personally I have ADHD and can't sit and stare in silence for that long or keep grid data / formulas in my head at once, nor do I even want to. Ironically I'm good at Poker...

I think chess is the best creation of mankind.

Maybe music actually.

But yeah, I play chess every other day tbh, It's like life, I get goosebumps every time I win too.

Can't tell how good I am, I think it usually depends on my opponents tbh, I adjust to their methods generally, my one rule of play is domination of the center, get your bishops, knights, pawns and your queen out, keep the castles 'till the end for the final checkmate moves. Also, I work on elimination methods, just wipeout your opponents, Isolate the king, but when doing this, I have to be extra careful to avoid stalemate, I'm quite good at getting them when I'm on the line though
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?
