RIP backspace dubstep
backspace has been suspended thanks to Z audio making multiple copyright claims on backspace's uploads. RIP to in my opinion, the best youtube channel

the music isn't yours to do with what you want.
i wish more labels would take ownership of their music on youtube.
instead of letting retards post pictures of half naked chicks to their music.

Spare us this " but the channel was helping spread the sound" bullshit. No one in 2011 is going to swallow that cookie anymore.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
Theres quite a few tunes i would never have bought if it wasn't for that channel. of course there are going to be people who rip the tunes, but theres not really anyway to stop tunes from getting pirated, even vinyl only releases get ripped asap.

This. The sheer number of people who linked to tunes on that channel on this forum says enough. The downside is what? People download bad youtube rips rather than pirating the tunes properly?Dub_freak wrote:Theres quite a few tunes i would never have bought if it wasn't for that channel. of course there are going to be people who rip the tunes, but theres not really anyway to stop tunes from getting pirated, even vinyl only releases get ripped asap.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
what a silly thing to say - channels like that are obviously spreading the sound. I'm not saying Z Audio shouldn't have done what they did or anything but to deny that channels like these aren't really good places for people to discover new music is just stupid. I can't count how many new tunes or producers I've come across simply by browsing through tunes on Youtube. As I said, I'm not really defending nore attacking either Z Audio or Backspace but you're post just seemed a bit ignorant.seckle wrote:Spare us this " but the channel was helping spread the sound" bullshit. Personally I just see it as another promotional platform - its not like Backspace was putting up links to download the tunes illegally (like some channels) - they were trying to promote the music and also trying and encourage people to go out and buy the records or buy the digital releases.
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
i'm inclined to agree. me thinks the people who are content downloading youtube rips weren't really planning on purchasing the music in the first place.collige wrote:The downside is what? People download bad youtube rips rather than pirating the tunes properly?

clearly everyone who watches videos like those are just trying to rip them so they dont have to pay for the real thing

he's made a new one now: it's not about ripping radio shows any more to be honest.

uploading full tunes to youtube, whatever the quality : I don't support.
Having said that, I think Z-Audio are wankers.
They threatened action against me (after deleting the footage from my channel) because I had live video's on there. Live video's of DJ's performing in very bad quality. With MC's brabling over it, with crowd response, rewinds and general crowd noises. I don't think any one in their right minds would rip from a live recording (from crowds perspective). Hell, they weren't even full tunes...just two minute shots strung together to give general impressions of the night.
I think that's bollocks. Sure, copyright material is copyright material and I guess from a legal standpoint, I won't be in the right. But their attitude has insured me that I WILL NEVER BUY ANY Z-AUDIO MATERIAL AGAIN. Most of their shit sucked horseshit anyway, except for ON THE EDGE and a few tunes here or there.
Z-Audio, you're done with.
Having said that, I can understand why they would take a channel listing full tunes of their releases down....but threatening legal action over a 3 minute clip of Bar9 performing in a bar somewhere with crowds and rewinds and the general impossibility of ripping it...I don't agree with. The venue allows recording so I'm allowed to do it. I'm sure copyright officially prevents me from putting it on youtube. Still, they're my video's....

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
yes defo the best youtube channel, discovered loads of tunes on backspace that i then bought. shame really
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
Fuck this. When are labels gonna realise that by taking their tunes off YouTube they're seriously hurting their promo? I swear half my fucking generation finds all their music through YouTube. Look at UKF dubstep for example. Backspace was our UKF! It's just misguided greed pure and simple. Fuck the music industry.

They arent though, and there are consequences beyond rip-based piracy.Maccaveli wrote:Fuck this. They are of the mindset that removing unofficial copies centralizes statistics, thus ultimately putting a single copy of the tune higher in the search then one would end up if there were multiple copies of the same tune. 10,000 views is better then 10 videos with 1,000 views.
And also, youtube monetization can be a valuable source of profit if managed properly, something these channels help make more difficult.
Re: RIP backspace dubstep
Yeah that would make sense if they actually had official uploads of the tunes, but they don't.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
I randomly stumbled across one of my tunes on Youtube a while ago that someone had put up (still there now), and quite the opposite, I was chuffed to bits to find that someone liked one of my tunes enough to take their time to upload it to their channel, as well going to the effort of plugging my Myspace, Twitter and Soundcloud accounts in the video info.
Now obviously I'm not running a label and I do in a way understand why Z Audio might wanna do what they did, but at the same time, I'm pretty sure even if I was running a label and found a dedicated legit channel like Backspace had uploaded some of the tunes on my label to their channel, personally I'm sure I'd be equally as chuffed. At the end of the day it would just mean more people would be hearing the music on my label and if someone wants to rip shit Youtube quality versions of them that's their problem really.
