That 140bpm house style.

Post by Tomfooleri » Wed Nov 09, 2011 12:47 am

So there are a few producers pushing sounds that are on more of a dancey, 4/4 sort of vibe around. Dismantle, Kutz and Soap Dodgers are all drawing into this sort of sound, and it goes off in clubs like no other. Obviously its quite far removed from the deep, dark dungeon sounds that are emerging lately, but its a step in a new direction.

What are your views on these new sounds? A few examples here if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm quite enjoying playing these out, its really starting to put alot more variation into people's sets have 4/4 segments that are a bit more bouncy, they just bring happy vibes.

Love it... like you said, breaks up a half-step set nicely.

i think its a great alternative to playing tearout/brostep for the more mainstream heads...

its got loads of energy and it gets the crowd moving

Are both those tracks not just electro-house? Sounds like it to me...

Fucking love this style of 140 bass music. Wish it'd be played out more!

Not sure about Dismantle though. Some if it is just too cheesy for me...

Love this style, Computation is insane when dropped. Nevalo said, it gets people moving on the dancefloor without being brostep. Sometimes you need a bit of energy, especially at the end of a long night, to keep going.

Yeah I'm into it...

But its all about variation, and doing things a bit different every now and then. Like dropping different genre's in what might be called a "Dubstep" set.

Like even now, if I'm playing out, depending on where it is and what night it is, I might drop some old 2-step garage banger, a bit of El-B,Jay Da Flex or Zed Bias...fuck it, I might even drop some minimal techno shit from Jamie Jones, Claude Von Stroke, or some Bookashade? Why not, keep things interesting init, and when you find that Dubstep tune that fits well with something else, and then you drop a sick double drop...BOSH!! :h:

'Pitcher' still gets dropped on the regular. Massive tune. Caspa's last EP had a couple good ones on this flex... 'Champion Skank' and 'Hot Shoe Shuffle' which were nice little tunes. 'Geordie Racer' with Sub Scape as well.

One of the reasons I love 140 is because there is so much you can do in that tempo!

Apologies for posting this in the Dubstep segment, thought it would be relevant to General Discussion.

Nice to hear people are liking the sounds, I whole heartedly agree about it giving some nice variation. And gives people who might not necessarily want to be at a dubstep night, (I know, but apparently they exist) something to bounce along to.

I was worried this sound would get the same sort of treatment Brostep did when it first started coming around, and anyone who played it would just be shunned. Nice to see something fresh coming through that is being accepted into the world.

Hurrah for progression!

And dancing!

Like I said, "Like even now, if I'm playing out, depending on where it is and what night it is".... If it was a purist night I probably wouldn't... But I play at lot of nights that dont have a purist/strict music policy... We get bookings because of the various styles we play and mix mash it all together for a HYPE TING set... get ma? :W:

thinking about making a track full-time in 140 and have a more "house-y" feel. don't quote me though, still need to get a bunch of tracks finished before i would consider doing this. really like this idea
