This is THE Snare
What up fellow dubsteppers?
Check out the snare in this song that starts around :27... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2u8ktDjikc
Its like out of this world. It punches so hard. HOW? How does one create a snare that just tears like that? Anyone got any clue?
Not to mention the song is fuckin tight.
Im not new to the game and I understand a lot about making a snare I understand transient shaping and relevant EQing and picking good samples in the first place but that is just unreal. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks guys

Re: This is THE Snare
Sounds like a compressed snare, a little white noise, and a cowbell or high tom.

Re: This is THE Snare
regardless of the type of snare and the layers used, in order to make it 'sing' (ahem) you need to find the fundamental frequency of the snare you use...and EQ/boost it accordingly to make it resonate like the producer has in your example.
It's worth stating that it will do more harm than good boosting your snare in the same place as other producers have boosted theirs, if your snare has a fundamental frequency that is completely different, so it comes back to starting with good source material. Once you've found the snare you want to use, experiment with non-linear and minimum phase EQ's to get the punch without the resonant tail that can often be heard when using a high Q setting. then move onto layering and distortion/compression etc.

Re: This is THE Snare
Good eqing, compression, envelopes, transient shaping, and layering. And how you shape the track around it.
Re: This is THE Snare
seems like a short punchy snare, or a couple layered, peaking at 200-215 hz maybe. transient shape it a bit and compress it so the tail is still powerful. maybe layer that with the tail of a tom hit as well. finally throw a reversed white noise hit right before every other snare. just some ideas
Re: This is THE Snare
Sounds like a short snare from vengeance pack to me :S
millions of snares like this available everywhere imo.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
Re: This is THE Snare
Pick the right samples, layer and EQ them. Buss them all, compress the fuck out of the them and EQ boost the shit out of 200hz
You should get somewhere slightly close like that, the rest is fine tuning / EQing and the right effects chains

Re: This is THE Snare
Actually, nobody has named the main tech in getting a snare like this. Now im not saying thats how they achieved this particular snare, but..
A high boost at 200hz --> Driven into an overdrive or distortion unit. Make that low mids ring, maybe a little compression, but not lots as you want that dynamic punch, Bounce to audio, chop and change as needed.

No you're not alone. It's just compressed to fuck and EQ boosted rlyAnne Droid wrote:am i the only one who doesnt hear anything out of the ordinary?

Re: This is THE Snare
I thought it was pretty gay to be honest. Reminded me of feed me's dubstep snares. I don't like snares in dubstep that have an actual "tone" rather than just the "prtfshhh".
Not to cause troubles, but this is the best snare i've come across yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cXDgFwE13g
That being said, look through dnb sample banks, they have a lot of snares similar to this one.

Re: This is THE Snare
I always dislike the kind of snares people talk about on here
give me a Kryptic Mind style rim or Roland hit any day

Re: This is THE Snare
also listen on the first snare, theres a quick white noise rising into it which gives the illusion of it hard hitting

Yeah word, I do hear that white noise swell, I'll have to check out trying that in my stuff.
Could you recommend any good ones? I have the vengeance packs as of recent but anything else that really stands out?RmoniK wrote:That being said, look through dnb sample banks, they have a lot of snares similar to this one.

Re: This is THE Snare
Yes it could be compressed or pitched, but it could also be a sample from a pack or VST. To make this just add a lot of compression/effects, and yes definitely raise the pitch.
