Not sure if it's just me, but certain points of that documentary made me feel as if I were on ketamine.

Ok, so I kinda get what the documentary is trying to say in a general sense. On the other hand, I can't help but think that a lot of these "musicians", and I use that term loosely, are just pretentious dickholes. I would also go as far as to say that a few of these people just managed to stumble onto a scene that requires absolutely no skill(probably not the word I want to use) to....I guess move up the ladder. They simply take advantage of the fact that some people are so full of pretentious shit that they are willing to listen and buy into their crap just to tell people they like it. When it really comes down to it, it's just noise and how you manage to create it, and nothing more.

It actually irked me a bit hearing some of them refer to what they do as music, or, "cosmic music". The majority of the documentary, and maybe I'm just completely blind or to close minded to understand this form of art, but it looked like people just put together a bunch of random pieces of fx units and equipment that generates noise and then just randomly turned knobs and flipped switches. Just a continuous loop of sound being manipulated by one effect and then sent back into itself and creating a constant looping of feedback. Then every so often adding one new sound to the texture to keep the evolution of the texture going. This, of course, is also the basis of abstract painting, which by the way I'm not a big fan of either in case that wasn't obvious already.

I think the one part of the documentary where I didn't feel that it was just pure chaos and randomness with no true idea of what they were trying to do, was the dude with the Organ that creates sound based on touching the plates(sorry, don't really feel like rewinding it to get the name of it again). That was really the only one that I felt had a sense of control over the outcome of what he was actually doing. The dude that was headbanging and jumped on a chair and fell off I think is the one that really put the pretentious meter into overdrive. I just wanted to go to his house and hit him in the face with a rolled up newspaper and then rub his nose in his own bullshit.

I do get the general sense of the documentary. Yes, noise is life essential. We are all surrounded by noise that stimulates and affects our day to day lives. It warns us of danger, tells us when to wake up in the morning, and tells us when it's time to go to our next class. But random chaotic noise is not music to me. I definitely wouldn't spend money to sit and listen to it for any extended period of time either, at least not in the way these people are doing it. I guess you could call me a hater, but as far as noise in this manner I just can't come to terms with it.

I think there is a story coming out about 'downloadable drugs' which should be pretty interesting as well, might be some other stuff out there that has been already documented if anyone cares to dig around for it. basically saying that certain noises can created the same stimultions as drugs do. good doc OP

ive yet to watch the doc but as someone who likes noise/makes noise i have to say that it's not like music (what most people would consider music), most of the fun is the actual process itself, circuit bending shit, magnifying weird sounds, breaking things, etc etc. for me growing up the best thing on tv was the static channel we didn't get and the best songs on the radio were the ones that didn't come in properly. i love noise, simple as. idk maybe theres a lot of pretentious dicks out there but for me and some people i know who make noise, its just a matter of zoning out and making weird ass sounds. talent??? no, who the fuck cares? we just want to hear sounds man

This is fucking bullshit. Its the equivalent of me smearing my own shit all over a canvas and calling it 'art'. Theres no rhythm, no melody. This is typical of the modern mentality, calling this stuff music is an insult to musicians. It requires little skill to produce, i've made similar sounds accidentally when programming synths.
