Housestep SubBass?
For Dubstep-House hybrids, whats the protocol on sub bass? I feel like adding subbass would interfere with the bassier house kicks, but that without it the bass might sound too hollow. Any thoughts?
Re: Housestep SubBass?
Well, you are going to sidechain the kick to everything anyway, so why not?

In ableton I usually put a sidechained filter on the kicks so when there's no sub bass they hit low, but when the sub is playing the get highpassed around 90hz

do whatever the fuck you like mate, theres no protocols on anything, just make a tune and put what you want in it, and if the housestep masters dont like subass dont get butt hurt cos you put some in.BadWolf wrote:For Dubstep-House hybrids, whats the protocol on sub bass? It was only a matter of time before this stuff had it's own title, this is the whole dismantle style 4x4 kick stuff I've been hearing right?
Re: Housestep SubBass?
Can we focus less on the terminology here? No point turning every other thread into a semantic argument
OP - you got an example of the sort of tune you're referring to?

Re: Housestep SubBass?
personally I will sidechain my kick and sub.
Sub heavy kicks just become a bitch to eq, plus If you sidechain properly you`ll barely hear the compressor working.
Unless however you want the tune to be pumping.

spoken-wordstep is what swamp81 are pushing next iirc
Re: Housestep SubBass?
Sub is mostly under 60 hz, cut your kick from there, and cut your sub where the kick is peaking. The kick will still have plenty of weight.
Rough frequencies, it varies, but cutting frequencies is really all you need to do in any music, besides good sound selection.

better than I expected actually, don't really get the drop at 1.25, they should have spent a bit more time on that bit
