not afraid remix, help?
Hey, I'm currently working on a remix of not afraid by Eminem. I looked up the tempo and it says 80 bpm, and i put the song into ableton, and it came up as 80 bpm as well, but after I've been working on it for a while, I noticed that the percussion pattern doesn't start at the same time each bar. The first is at bar 9 , then after the patterns over, it starts again at 9.4.4, then next time its 10.4.3, then 11.3. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Greatly appreciated, thanks!

just cut it up to fit your needs man. Not all music will be in 4x4 and follow our EDM standards. Especialy rap stuffs, they can and do a lot of silly shit in hiphop and it works because its hiphop.
I personally would write the remix at 160 and play the loop half time but thats just ause i like 150-170 range myself.

Make sure that able ton isn't detecting it at the wrong tempo and warping it.
Re: not afraid remix, help?
80 BPM is the correct tempo. I do believe it actually is in 4/4 timing. Chances are you just don't have it set properly. It can happen when song intros go on for an odd amount of bars. That's sort of how Hip-hop kinda works though. Try manually moving it around a little at a time and see if you can find the sweet spot.

Does it sound like it's going off time, or is that just the reading? Because the snare in Hip-hop doesn't always hit on the three like Dubstep.
Re: not afraid remix, help?
i read an interview (albeit a long time ago) with eminem who said that he quite often makes beats AFTER recording his vocals. something to bare in mind.
now that i've wrote this i'm not really sure how much relevance it has.. oh well.
try cutting the acapella up into seperate bars.

I've decided just to cut it up, It can't be 4x4 cause the pattern doesn't restart at the same time in the bar, and it sounds off time at most parts and on time at some, so refused I'm pretty sure thats why :/
Thanks for the help everyone!!!

Hmm... it also might have been double or half time, but just cutting would probably be your best optiondj Cappa wrote:I've decided just to cut it up, It can't be 4x4 cause the pattern doesn't restart at the same time in the bar, and it sounds off time at most parts and on time at some, so refused I'm pretty sure thats why :/
