Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
made a pretty good koan / noisia sounding Reese in my sig.
was reallly simple too. 3 saws and white noise, two band reject filters, disto, eq and side chaining. then just cutting that up. No resampling and very light on effects other than distortion.

Some people dislike resampling, others praise it loads... personally I think it's great if done right - I usually do it in combination with granulization and have made some really cool sounds.
The basses in these were made using both granulization and resampling, resampling specifically helped on the 3rd track to make the reeses more growly:

^^^^ wow man, i would love to know how you made the reese on your second song there(out of time wip), exactly what i have been trying to create
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
All of them come from a single reese I made (which is like 5 seconds long), I resampled/resynthisised in IL Harmor and then loaded into FL Granulizer. All the effects - like moving, pitching up/down and growly bits come from automating the granulization parameters. On the final mixer channel I think I had maybe some slight distortion, maybe some compression and some tight reverb on the high end to make it more boomy.BLASKO wrote:^^^^ wow man, i would love to know how you made the reese on your second song there(out of time wip), exactly what i have been trying to create
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
thanks man, ive been playing around with harmor alot lately, ill deff have to try out the granulizer more i guess hahaha thanks man
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
Check out SeamlessR's tutorials on youtube for some good Harmor tuts.BLASKO wrote:thanks man, ive been playing around with harmor alot lately, ill deff have to try out the granulizer more i guess hahaha thanks man
As for granulisation a good start is turn hold, attack and grain spacing knobs all the way to the left and turn the final knob to a few percent to the right of the center (which is 0%) and turn/automate that knob very slightly around that position. Obviously tweak the others to find cool sounds - but thats pretty much where I start from. The pan/stereo seperation knob is also a good one to automate.

ahahah yeah, ive been watchin seamless's videos great stuff!! thanks dude
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
TBH, resampling generally isn't necessary (not in my experience anyway), sometimes some chopping up but that's all.

IKR If I could use Massive as a vocoder, that would be the shiz! I never heard anyone doing this, so lol..i11icit wrote:Forgive me in advance if this is an amateurish question but what do you mean by modulating the sound using Massive? Do you mean taking audio and running it through Massive and using Massives filters / LFOs / FX to modulate the sound?
To my knowledge this isn't possible???
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
So....
KTN uses reason and whats in reason to create a lot of those sounds
plesk's tune is out of malstrom, in reason.
If you don't have reason, what is a good alternative? I feel like so much stuff is exclusive to reason, a lot of these really awesome sounds that people ask about end up being only able to make in reason...

How about you show me one sound that you need reason to recreate and i will buy it for youSinergy wrote:If you don't have reason, what is a good alternative? Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
KTN uses Massive. A lot.
Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
Yeah, KTN doesn't use reason anymore, not since he started using these crazy sounds anyway. Massive's definitely the way to go. On the other hand, you can get some great results by using complex eq/filter processing on reeses (which is what Noisia, Skrillex, and probably KOAN sound do). I managed to get some good results: https://soundcloud.com/proj14/drum-and-bass-experiment

Thanks, I put the FM8 patch through ohmicide first to bring out all the frequencies and just make it really sharp and fullill mindset wrote:Nice work. smile that is awesome.
if you could shed any light on how to modulate a sound like that it would be greatly appreciated

Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
Haha, funny... It's pretty much a normal growl filtered, the layering technique just made it seem like it says "Talk to me".
Example:
0:45 - seems like the bass says "Talk to Me" too, right?

Re: Koan Sound/Kill The Noise HELPPPP
I'm pretty sure during mau5hax (or some other interview) KTN said the Talk to Me bass is (I'm dead serious here) Modern Talking through a guitar amp. Honestly I think it sounds obviously M-Talky to me.
