From sounds to song(riff)
Hey guys,
I'm having issues with making a song out of my sounds.
I get the sounds right they sound real thick and not really a problem there.
But then after a day or so I'm looking at 30 tracks with different sounds.
And i find it real hard to make a good riff out of them. And then eventually make a song out of the riff.
Is it a wrong way to go, having 30 tracks to start with.
Sometimes when I listen to Skrillex or so it seems like he has like 1 to 3 sounds and work from them.
Do you guys know any tut's for once you have a sound how to make a song out of them ? To make a song like "First of the Year - Skrillex".
I've watched some on youtube but they are more like into a dancy song witch I can make but, I really want to make this dirty Skrillex riff.
Thanks beforehand !

Re: From sounds to song(riff)
ps, composition can't really be taught. if there was a tutorial to follow on how to put sounds together everyone would be making the same tunes.. it'd be more of a problem than it already is. learn some theory, do what sounds good
Re: From sounds to song(riff)
Thanks for the reply's
I've already read allot of posts regarding composition, but really haven't found one that made a cool Skrillex kinda riff. It was more dancy sounds.
And I can compose a pretty good dance song. But dubstep is a different cookie and it's hard to crumble.
I'll just be trying then.
But do you guys use allot of automation and one particular base sound ? Or do you set up multiple each with another tonality and then compose a song with it ?

Re: From sounds to song(riff)
lots of people will take a patch and make several duplicates with small or big changes that the song will bounce between
look up grouping and bussing and it should help combining your sounds

Re: From sounds to song(riff)
start simple. try making a song with a simple softer sound or just use one bass
these aren't going to be great and probably not that interesting but you can't run before you walk
