waveform inversion to get vocals only

Post by N0BODY » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:02 pm

ok, so I want to remix Linkin Park - Numb, so I got the instrumentals and the regular song. Now, I want to get just the vocals too, and someone told me that I can do that by doing a wave inversion, subtracting the instrumentals from the regular track to get the vocals alone.. How do I get the vocals alone using this or another method?

You'll need a copy of the instrumental of the track to get this to work.

Im going to add; you will need the EXACT same version in the instrumental as the full song (but with the vox obviously).
It will also need to be the exact same bitrate (if its an mp3, not recommended) try getting the CD single if it has the instrumental version on that CD then you wont have any problems.
Generally, if your mixing two that have miss-matching qualities, you will hear a lot of artefacts and glitches in the audio.

Can we just put a big banner at the top of the forum warning people that this process is much more hassle than its worth? Bloody question appears every couple of months I swear.......

Lol. yeah, extracting vocals is rarely ever this easy. Trying to get some for use in a remix is generally an extremely painful and tedious process that still ends up sounding shit.
