WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INFORMATION

Post by Sonika » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:32 pm

Hey guys....sorry for the all-caps post, I just find it gets people's attention better.
Anyways...
So where do you guys find your news/information about dubstep and such? I ask this because I thought I knew a fair amount about labels/artists in the dubstep scene, but when the I pulled the DMA thing up, I realized that I had no idea about things like best new artist, anything to do with the labels or Pretty much anything else.

I now realize that my view in this scene is very small - honestly I just make music and when I listen to music, it just depends on the mood I'm in - but mostly nowadays I'll just put on some good ol Skream.

So basically, I live in a place where there is hardly any dubstep scene. Next year I'm moving to Amsterdam, and I believe there's a better one there.

In the meantime, I use the internet. Can people PLEASE give me some suggestions as to where to gain more knowledge, specifically about the new and upcoming artists and DJs and labels, but really any info will work...

Thanks....peace

This thread here is a good start: http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=167366
Listen to radio shows: Rinse FM, Sub FM, Rood FM
Check internet stores: Chemical Records, Red Eye Records, Juno

And just lock into this forum regularly.

Great, thanks! I have the RinseFM app on my iPod, but it doesn't give song IDs, which is irritating

find a few mixes, new and old, and listen to em. find the tracks you like from thos mixes here http://www.dubstep-mixes.co.uk/default/ (providing the tracklist has been made). then follow the artist soundcloud/facebook/twitter/ even on here. :D

We don't go looking for the information, we stumble across it.

Why do you feel you NEED to know, if you enjoy the music you'll find it.

Yeah as sageon mentioned
rinsefm, rinsefm, rinsefm.
Getdarker was always a fave in the day.

as for roodfm, some of the so called "artists" are a waste of space, waste of time and are wankers. so my advice would be don't bother with that!

I really think dubstep as a genre is lacking now, future garage etc is the future.
Some of the shit that gets churned out now is amazingly awful!

Whenever I hear a track that's on a label I haven't heard of before, I check out the other releases on there. Then I might like a release by a certain artist on there, and then I'll check out their other stuff. Eventually you'll build up a fat web of knowledge, and you'll know which labels are putting out constant fire, and which ones you can probably avoid.

I think Whistla and sub.fm need way more props than people give him / the station, done so much for the scene. So many DJ's passed through the station on the way to bigger things...

Yeah, imo 9 out of 10 times sub.fm is playing something better than rinse nowadays. Maybe its bad timing on my part, but it seems like rinse always has some katy b style ish or really aggy shit playing. To be fair there are some top notch shows on rinse with some of the best and biggest djs in the game, but only for a few hours a day, whereas sub.fm is more consistently solid.

Once you have a few artists/labels that your keeping tabs on, it seems that every man, woman, and child uses various social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to send out news these days.
