Tempa
I really don't understand tempa's output.
most of the music they release is good, but it completely lacks a direction.
you have the spacy, dubby horsepower stuff, the coki tracks which are too fucked up for any other labels, the dark shit by kenzo, and then popstep from skream.
obviously labels don't need to have a grand artistic vision, but this output confuses me.
that is all.

Re: Tempa
me too. not that they're bad releases (most of em are fucking great) but it's just sorta randomwobbles wrote:no i def feel u on that i dont get where they are going with their releases
Re: Tempa
IMO tempa's direction is to put out quality dubstep tunes, regardless of the flavor. They've been nailing it for years! I can understand why smaller labels like to stick to one style but tempa's releases are in the sixties at this point. Labels like mu, warp, etc put out an even wider selection of tunes/genres and do it well also. I couldn't imagine a label releasing so many 12's of just one flavor nahmeen?

Re: Tempa
Exactly, I don't think Tempa would have lasted this long if they had've stuck to just one sound for all these years. Besides, maybe its just cos I tend to picture the album/single artwork in my head while I'm listening to tunes by habit, but Tempa releases have this undefinable quality that unifies them in my mind. Like, something about Coki's Tempa releases just sounds more 'Tempa' to me than his others, particularly Boomba.

Hmm, who prefers the releases on Tectonic over Tempa? anyone? I'm not saying I do, but I'm just curious to see others opinions.

Re: Tempa
why does it need a direction? surely appeals to more people by throwing different styles in there?

Re: Tempa
Nope, they should exclusively release Horsepower Productions tracks from 2000-2003. They can release the same ones again as far as I'm concerned.

If this is the future, it seems highly livable: shiny, cool and comfortably dissonant. Like a low dose of ketamine in an empty, luminous airport hall in northern Japan, eating avocado and waiting for the universe to arrive.
Re: Tempa
tempa's a 'unique' label...with the variety of artists music they release on the label, each release just sounds like 'tempa'...i don't know what it is but it has a vibe of its own
and i thank the lord that it exists because I can't see anyone else having the balls to put out 'boomba' (i still believe that's a top 10 track this year, i don't care what anyone sez)
