Question, DJing

Post by Khazm » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:41 am

Hey guys, I recently bought a Line6 ux2 audio interface. Mainly for production but was hoping to use it for DJing also.

I can DJ with it using ableton, but only if one trs out is disconnected. I believe most club systems are in mono and was wondering if a single trs out is good enough for djing? Cheers.

Its not that MOST clubs are mono, its that a large portion of them are, particularly long-standing ones, or ones with excessively big rigs... I wouldnt be willing to put any money on them being in the majority, but you should still be ready for one to be mono if the situation arrises (check your tunes for phase correlation, ect.)

But... nah I wouldnt do that, its not like your monitors arent stereo, dont limit yourself... you really NEED a 2 in 2 out interface if you want to dj digitally...

Alright, I'm thinking about getting a usb mixer such as the Numark M6. Seems like a good idea.

You know thats a traditional mixer with a usb sound input/output for playing your pc's output and recording your mixers output, not a midi controller, right? So you wont like, be controlling ableton with that. Youd be blending up to 4 cdjs, turntables, ect... Its a 4 line mixer... The USB port on that is mostly used by wedding dj's to plug in ipods and media player n shit, or by turntablists as a way to record their mixes, it doesnt actually control any software...

You should really do ALOT more research on what a dj setup actually consists of and then pick soemthing thats right for you. If you like Ableton (which most would argue isnt djing but rather a means for live performance of your own tracks), or need the sync button, something like the APC series would benefit you, and it would come in handy if you ever wanted to live produce as well...

If you want to 'dj' in the traditional sense of the word, you'll need 2 players and a mixer like the one you linked...

I've done lots of research, I know exactly what a USB mixer is used for so please don't try and tell me what I already know. I thought a usb mixer would be good to go along with ableton a I could use external effects processors ie Kaoss Pad. But, all I'm going to do for now is run the 1/4" out into the venues mixer or whatever.

I own an APC40 also.

Feel ya, definitely worth the investment though. I got Traktor, 2 decks, a mixer, audio 8 dj for 500 euros. Gradually
upgraded to a new mixer / new needles etc. works like a charm.

I picked up 2 stanton t80s, a numark mixer, a rack mount amp and 2 big PA speakers for £160 recently from cash converters. You can get some quality deals if you look hard enough.

yeah whatever cash converters are, sounds like what we call a pawn shop and they are full of good deals on pa/dj equipment usually.
