Great thread. Will go a searchin'
And how will you inquire into a thing when you are wholly ignorant of what it is? Even if you happen to bump right into it, how will you know it is the thing you didn't know?

Re: Sample spotter moment...
I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I hear a sample used on Endtroducing. I was listening to Tangerine Dream for example the other day, and Changeling has samples from them. Also in movies naturally, the bit at the end of Matrix where Trinity goes "DODGE THIS" is used here and there. And watching Dark City, obviously for the spoken sample, but the five or so note jingle that plays when the main character gets those visions, the "duh duh duh-duh DUH DUH DUH". Distance used that so fucking well in Tuning.

Had a sick sample spotter moment just now. I was listening to Gil Scott Heron's "Pieces of a Man", the song on the album of the same name. I'd had this album for a long time. Then I heard the line at 2:16. "I saw the thunder and heard the lightning",
and just then realized it's the line Zomby samples in "Euphoria", at 1:01:
