dubreggae in dubstep

Post by numaestro » Sat Mar 25, 2006 1:40 pm

On the Horsepower thread Spaceboy + Dubway say they think there is too much dub + reggae influence in dubstep. I'm a bit confused. What do you mean? Rhythms? Samples? General atmosphere?

i think maybe dubstep may go in different directions with different countries trying it out now---for example look how many diff house types there are or dnb or hip hop

just think that maybe we maybe listening to soulstep or tekstep blah blah blah

I don't know what the guys said in the thread, but I'm hearing quite a bit of dubstep these days that just sounds like digidub... bit tired.

There is a lot of reggae coming in. I really enjoy it when it's reappropriated and reshaped to some degree, but some of the tunes coming out that just sound like, well, reggae or digidub are bit lackluster. But hey, one flavor of anything gets boring, so mixing it up isn't bad, even if a particular direction isn't to your liking.

This thread is depressing. Why are so many heads so eager to criticise?

I love when I hear the reggae influence in dubstep.

I want more.

I also love the techno/industrial influence in dubstep.

I also see absolutely nothing wrong with digidub.

Thank you to everyone who produces dubstep no matter what influences are apparent in the tunes.

here here!

we've got some huge sonic pallette in dubstep, just keep on lifting and twisting from wherever, as long as there's no stifling we can do no wrong
