Does anybody here use alchemy and is it any good?
I heard that porter robinson uses it for most of his basses and his basses are nuts!

Right. I've found that more and more of what I make these days that actually IS good - is coming out of good technique and based on certain principals rather than which tool it's coming from.

With that said, Alchemy is awesome. There are many inspirational things about it and lots of ways to come up with a custom sound. I'd use it for more organcis than heavy basses, but you could use it for whatever you'd like

I think the biggest realization I've had recently is that when I come up with good sounds, I'm focused on making cool things for myself that I like listening to, not based off of what others create or do.... Such as the Skrillex Binge of 2011.... Hopefully this new year will bring a bit more variation in what people produce

Alchemy is like a $50,000 high-caliber sniper rifle: frightening in the right hands, pointless for a brand new untrained soldier to even try and mess with.

Which is not to say that you are that soldier, but rather - it's deep, high-end shit that is hopefully NOT the very first weapon you've ever tried.

I use it for pads and synths, its great for that kinda thing. Haven't tried making a bass out of it yet. Focusing on FM8 for that

I've been using Alchemy for a while now and it is the deepest most amazing thing I've ever worked with. It has a sampler that doesnt change length a kick as granulizer amazing everything. Its truly incredible.

When i look at the producers here in belgium i notice that a lot of them are starting to go back to the oldschool dubstep !
I hope it's not just in Belgium , but i don't think so . The other remaining good producers seem to be going for the bassclash style.

depends on how comfortable you are with synths. I really wouldn't advise Alchemy as your first. try something much simpler and preferably free to get you up to grips with synthesis. Grab yourself a copy of Computer Music Magazine and check out the CM studio on the DVD. Plenty of shit to fuck with on there.

YES^10000000000. If I could only have one instrument, it would be Alchemy, and I've tried almost all the top vst's. It's the sickness, it's the sex.

That's great to hear! Yeah, it's not only Belgium, some of us are also shooting for that over here on the West Coast in the US. I've been starting to sample some old Dub tracks too, kinda bring back some of the roots and inspiration the first started when dubstep was being developed.
