near death experiences

Post by eyeatus » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:24 am

i almost got bit in the face by a western diamondback rattlesnake a few years back. i was camping on mushrooms and stuck my head in this little cave. 5 minutes later, i finally see the snake coiled up slithering its tongue a foot away from my face.

i saw my brother die for 30 seconds in a motocross accident, he broke his back and went into convulsions / seizures and stopped breathing and didnt have a pulse.

i got robbed at knifepoint, and another time at gunpoint.

i almost got sliced in half by a boat propeller.

there's a few more but the stories are too long.

who else has had a close call or seen someone almost die?

Was riding on the back of a massive quad, quad reared up and tipped over backwards, I fell to the floor hard, quad fully tips over and is now about to land on me, all I can do is brace myself and pray my arms stop my chest from being caved in, guy who was riding the quad comes out of nowhere and manages to guide the fall so it lands about 5cm away from my face to my right side. I was about half a second away from death or incredibly severe injury.

This one's embarrassing cause it's stupid; someone oughtta use this for a "don't do drugs campaign"...

Smoking on the traintracks with some friends, thick thick brush on both sides. Train actually comes, everyone runs and fins some path down, but I was so insanely high that I couldn't figure out what to do with myself. Finally at was really like the 3 seconds away mark, I just leap - like fuckin LEAP - into dense bush and shit, and just crouch. I realized I didn't land far from the tracks, because I could hear it just pounding on the tracks while i buried my face in the ground. I also realized that I had my bag on my back, sticking up further from my body, and at any moment some protruding piece of the train could grab the bag, and I've have been dragged to my death.

It was a shitty afternoon

Almost drowned to death when I was like 8 years old and it was around 9p.m at a pool when no one was around. My bro and his friends were inside working out. I was alone messing with a lifeguard(the irony) and it started floating out and I tried to reach for it and slipped into the pool. I was drowning and some lady walking by hopped over the fence and saved my life.

Thank you lady.

When I was, I think, 5 years old we went on a fieldtrip with school. We were going to this themepark for children or something and we went by bus.
Always with these sort of trips there were a few supervisors that came with us, these were, obviously, the teachers and some of the children's parents. My mum included.
So we went on our way and I wanted to sit next to a window and sat next to, which was at that time, my best friend. What I didn't know, however, was that the window I sat by was actually part of the emergency door of the bus...

Anyway, we were around 30 minutes on our way, already on the highway, and as little children do I was just fooling around and acting like an idiot when I apparently somehow touched the door handle when I leaned against it and the door swung open.
I don't know how I did it but I somehow managed to quickly grab the handle and I was now hanging outside the bus above the highway. My hands were on the doorhandle, my feet were barely on the edge of the bus and I could see the white lines of the highway flashing by underneath me.

In, what felt like minutes to me but were probably a couple of seconds, my mum, who sat at the back of the bus with the other supervisors, ran towards me, grabbed my coat and pulled me back into the bus.
And that was it.

You can imagine that my mum didn't really have a good day that day and she never went on another fieldtrip again after that.

Mine was last year, and the most terrible thing that it happened during my vacation - I was in Egypt and went for a safari ride, the trip was overfilled with people, and I just fell out of it at the highest speed possible... I broke both arms, a leg, was bleeding all over, and it took quite a long time before they could get me to the hospital... well, at least I am glad I didn't faint, so I was not that close to death... but everything could happen!

Got hit by a car 2 months ago on a push-bike - flipped over maybe 1 and a half times and landed mainly on my left shoulder---dislocated and fractured it. If i'd landed on my head i might not have been so lucky.

another time when graffing like 8 years a go or something, walking across a very thin ledge over some train tracks, kneeled down to get something from my bag, my freind didnt know i was kneeling and turnt around and brushed me some how and i fell off. must have been about 15 feet or something so not insane but still enough to do me some damage . luckily my bag caught a branch on the way down and broke my fall. maybe not near death but im pretty sure it would of done some damage.

threads like this make you thankful to be alive :w:

My heart has stopped before, when i was young I thought it would be a great idea to neck nearly 2l's on vodka, I passed out on the ground of a car park, girlfriend of the time finds me unconcious and calls an ambulance. I got extremely cold and got hypothermia, apparantly my heart stopped for a while. I could see a lot of this happening, it was like I was above my body watching it all unfold from a distance. Incredibly strange experience I must say, makes me glad to be alive.

This happened to me as well.
Not exactly the same.

I was in the car with my family also at around age 4-5.
I was asleep in the car while we flew along the highway.
I woke up in a daze, opened the door and climbed out at probably 120-140km/h
I somehow managed in my dream-state to still grab the arm rest and just hung there while being dragged along the road.
My dad stopped the car and my uncle pulled me in.
I lost the front of all my toes.
Blood everywhere.

Freakin lucky to have not died though.
