Another stupid question from me xD

Well, Im sure everyone loves to read my ignorant posts. Forgive me, gentlemen and women, in advance for being a total noob to electronic music production. Ask me about what pickups to put in a guitar, or why I need a 25.5" scale Wizard II neck on my guitar for what I play and I'd talk your ear off about that stuff, but as far as this side of the musical world, I am a novice. Whew, just had to justify why I am a complete asshat about these things. ANYWAYS, on to my actual question. Also, inb4 hatred on Skrillex, there is a Skrillex tune utilizing the sound I want to learn about, so I have to use that as my example. In the intro to his song "Kill Everybody," he vocalizes "I want to kill everybody in the world," but has it super synthesized and low and... well just plain old brostep wobbly sounding. What is that process called? For instance, if I had a vocal track and I wanted to tweak the frequencies to jump super low like that, what would I have to do? Does it have to do with distortions, bitcrushers, filters... I have no idea what you must do to play with a vocal track like that. As I said, Im learning. I don't mind looking like a total moron on a forum, because a place like this is often a good way to educate yourself. So, thats that. If anyone could tell me what kind of process or device or whatever you must use to do that type of effect, I will award you with FIFTEEN internets. You guys rule! /bows to my sensei

Vocoders generally, then he changes the pitch using Ableton's audio editing functions (transposing the notes), and he also uses Celemony's Melodyne software to further edit the pitch etc. Can't find the interview I read this in unfortunately, will try and locate it for you.

Uh not entirely sure if that's precisely the sound I was looking for, but that was some filthy stuff A vocoder IS indeed what I need to get cracking on. I'm so glad I worked at a Guitar Center for over a year. I've got all the hardware I need to dial one in I have the most bare bones workstation ever, but god is this stuff fun. Awesome guys, totally stoked to get this thing going.

Record the vocals singing whatever you want. Open up melodyne and set the pitch for the high pitched voice. Double that, transposing it a few semitones. Reverb on the highs, bitcrush everything a little bit.

If you use FL there are two free vocoders that come with the producer edition. Vocodex (the more advanced one) and plain old fruity vocoder.

Either could be used to get those effects, and better yet, youtube has a few nice tuts on each.

Take the vocal. Formant Shift it (sounds like pitching it down without actually changing the key). Bounce that.

Take the original vocal. Formant Shift it upwards. Bounce that. Glitch them separately and layer them.

I got my vocoder set up, and it pretty much does what I wanted I'll also work on applying the other strategies you guys mentioned later, but for now I'll just play with what I've got.
