Place to buy digi releases on DMZ? (Resolved 1/21)

Post by tge » Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:05 am

Miraculous HDD and Backup crash vaporized my digital collection and I'm without a means to rip the few records I have from the label. Can't find any releases on Beatport or Juno, and even if I could find them via less legit means the recording quality is almost always questionable.

Anyone seen these releases for sale online anywhere in 320 or flac?

Cheers.

Not available.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think some got released digitally for a short while years ago, but then got taken down.

This is correct. I believe they got released along with the vinyl releases until dmz010 which was vinyl only and then they took down all the previous digi releases. Or something like that, either way they are no longer available.

So my choices are do without or steal? What a downer. I wonder if the vinyl-only status of their releases is meant to be a statement or it's just that way for lack of interest.

I believe it's done to keep the music rarer so it's more of a ting to hear the tunes.

I sincerely hope that's not the case, hipster stunts like that make me lose a lot of respect for labels and artists.

:edit 1/21 : Didn't realize when I posted this that it's a matter of the sound quality of records vs digi, rather than trying to control exposure. My bad.

The way some people on here talk you'd think they want every single DMZ release to have been Mala with nothing from Loefah or Coki...

Loefah is actually my choice of the three, but I don't know why, Coki just never floats my boat.

I love all of them and Loefah's my favourite too. Not even the non tearout stuff like Serious, Intergalactic or especially Old Hope which are all on Urban Ethics?

I ripped them myself. But as I stated in my original post, I don't have the means to do it again currently.

Ok, that one's not half bad. I also forgot he did Mood Dub, which is a good one.

Doing limited presses is one thing, but deliberately limiting the exposure your releases get by isolating them to a single form of media is a hipster stunt. Especially when almost every other major label has a digital component. Hotflush has digital, Plante Mu has digital, Hyperdub has digital, Tectonic, Tempa, etc etc.

Or am I missing something that would explain how what they're doing helps them more than it hurts them?
