100bpm

Post by zerbaman » Sun Jan 22, 2012 2:15 am

Is there anyone who isn't trying to jump on that bandwagon?
I mean, that bpm has existed since the dawn of time, why are people so obsessed with it now?
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

it's like people think it's a new genre with every new bpm
first it was 128 with electro
then it was 175 with DnB
then it was 140 with dubstep
now it's 100 with.......

It's glitch hop. Moombahton is around 108-110.
Personally, the 100bpm stuff I had never heard about before KOAN Sound's Max Out, and then I got hooked. It's not like I'm trying to stay cool, but it was refreshing to hear after listening to dubstep for a couple of years..

Love how you're all implying you can't every make genre x outside bpm y. I could without doubt make 100bpm dubstep, or 150bpm moombahton.
Burial isnt dubstep, fuck off.

But that's the thing, EDM genres are pretty much limited to bpm's now, 170 bpm dubstep is now called drumstep, 100 bpm drum and bass is glitch hop etc..

the disco/slo mo house movement in general imo, got into a vicious cycle of re-edits and fusing with generic deep house. some of the post dubstep fusion with disco is a lot more interesting

e.g.

isn't dubstep partially defined by the fact that it's 130-150 bpm

Music is music! It really doesn't matter what bpm. Look at other genres. Hip hip, rock, jazz, etc. They all have songs with a range of tempos. Why people in the EDM scene can't handle that either is beyond me.

Who cares about tempo when you can have your tune just plain off the grid :corndance:. Also im sure this isn't far from the 100 bpm mark, at least it is definitely glitch hop.
