I just use Reason.. since they added the recording feature I don't feel the need to use anything other than that

I used Reason for around a year or two when I was just learning, and lately I've been making absolutely everything in Ableton...

Love it much much more (then again I pretty much only produce Hip Hop anymore)

In my opinion they are two completely different DAWS. I do think ableton is better because it does give you more possibilities like VST's and in my opinion easier use of samples and so on. Would rather use ableton any day. But i do like Reason and i do get a warm feeling thing about it because it was the first music program i startet playing around with at the age of about 11-12.

If Reason added some sort of vst support i would probably switch back. i'm on ableton right now and loving it, although i do sometimes go back to reason to record synth loops. Thor is awesome :)

unfortunately my computer is a bit dated so i doubt rewire would work very well..

I switched to Ableton a while ago, after being a Reason user for a couple of years. Sometimes I ReWire Reason into Ableton, but if I had to choose for one I'd go for Ableton. Btw,these kinda threads belong in the production section of the forum

having used reason since i started untill about a week ago i really think ableton > reason

for sound quality over anything else...

but everyone thinks different i guess, whatever you're happier with is the way to go imo.

Just in case you didn't know though: shit loads of early dubstep got made on reason so it's obviously quite usable on its own

You will get used to Ableton and realise it it much easier to use workflow wise.

Just learn how to produce in the first place. Basic production and synthesis can be applied in any DAW of your choosing.

IMHO Ableton > reason

reason isn't a daw though, it's a midi suite. no audio. you probably know that.

think of it as a big and glorious bundle of amazing synths and effects. more akin to komplete than ableton.

Are you stupid ..... Since when couldn't reason handle audio..even before record/ reason 6 you could load it into a sampler...ie use audio

EDIT it's still a bundle of joy and synths :U:

like everyone else here i learned on reason and now use ableton while occassionally rewiring ableton. For instance, I was using subtractor for sub bass for a while because it's so easy and massive always has these stupid pops whenever you look at the envelopes wrong.

I don't know about the new reason(s) but 4 had awful internal sound quality; it pretty much 'had' to be rewired unless you did loads of facking about with the mastering suite before you even started writing.

Rewiring is the way with Reason; its like the worlds most extensive VST.

This.

I still remember those horrid days that I had to fuck about with the mastering suite just to get started.

I'm using Logic now, after 1.5 years of reason and it's definitely a major upgrade. Still going to Rewire tho.
