One song that defines a genre

Post by dickman69 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 3:47 pm

I came up with the idea that maybe one song could be known as THE song to define a genre (I know this can't be true, but I wanted to find the closest thing).

So, I've looked through my dubstep collection and narrowed it down to 20 that could be considered THE dubstep tune

Darkstar - Aidy's Girl's A Computer
Massive Music - Find My Way (Kode9 Remix)
Coki - Officer
Vex'd - Pop Pop VIP
Digital Mystikz - Haunted
Burial - Archangel
Kromestar - Kalawanji feat. Cessman
Peverelist - Roll with the Punches
RSD - Pretty Bright Light
Untold - Kingdom
Pinch - Qawwali
Skream - Midnight Request Line
Loefah - Mud
Cluekid - Hovercraft
Distance - V
Horsepower Productions - Gorgon Sound
Artwork - Red
Benga - Evolution
Boxcutter - Glyphic
Pangaea - Router

make any suggestions you'd like, or pick any from my list
they don't have to be a certain age or anything, just whatever you think embodies the idea of dubstep the best

and remember this is just a little fun, don't turn it into some ticky tack argumentative ish

You are asking for a tune to encompass a genre which is at best abstractly defined, and more than likely formless.

This is largely impossible.

Couldn't pick just one. But I think that's a good list. Could use a lil Rama tho

For the future garage/post-dubstep UK Bass sound...

Jamie XX- Far Nearer truly says everything about the genre in one song, imo
