EXS24 & Goldbaby sample packs w/ Round Robin Layering?
I'm hoping someone here can answer this for me. I picked up the Goldbaby Super Analog 808 pack because I liked how the demos sounded, and I wanted to have a solid drum machine sounding pack on hand. Initially when I added the EXS24 patches, I did not pay much attention to the edit page, but once I did, I was kind of confused as to why most of the hits were multi-hits but only a few had any sort of velocity splitting (e.g. hit a kick at velocity 10, then at velocity 120 of the same key is going to trigger a different of the kick sample).
After reading the little manual PDF that came with it, I saw the mention about the patches making "use of extensive Round Robin mapping for a more analog feel." So that means that hitting a trigger key could fire off one of eight or so versions of the sample, correct? Is there some sort of setting or routing that is pre-programmed in to the EXS24 patch? And what if I wanted to make a patch myself that used that? How would I do that?
BONUS QUESTION (YES!?!?!?):
Probably totally convoluted, but what if I wanted to turn a Goldbaby kit into an E-MU e6400 Ultra patch, what would I have to do to get that same Round Robin mapping/layering? Other than converting the samples to 16 bit and building a preset with multi-samples, how would you cause hitting C1 to cycle through eight possible variations of a kick?
If I am being a spaz and over-thinking, just say so.

Hmmm not quite following
Re: EXS24 & Goldbaby sample packs w/ Round Robin Layering?
I'll try to articulate it a little better. The EXS24 patches that came with Goldbaby are programmed in such a way as to, I think, cycle through several different versions of a sound when you hit a key. Here's a screen shot:Sonika wrote:Hmmm not quite following

You can see variations of 808SD_Har32_B on key E1. What I'm tring to understand is how the EXS24 cycles through those variations. If you hit E1 eight times at the same velocity, chances are you could get eight different sounding versions of 808SD_Har32_B. Then, 808Conga_LPF_Har32 is set up to be different variations based on what velocity you hit G2 at.
Here's a screen of the EXS24 with one of the Goldbaby kits selected, don't see anything in particular other than 64 voices.

Does that shed light on what I'm trying to figure out? I was hoping someone with experience with the Goldbaby packs might know, or some sort of EXS24 super wizard.

if you wana do it to your own samples then just pay attention to the mappings of the samples you purchasd and implement what you see onto your own samples, shouldnt even take as long as it took to write your message :p
Re: EXS24 & Goldbaby sample packs w/ Round Robin Layering?
That's the thing, I don't see anything in the mapping or on the EXS24 itself that looks like some sort of random hit functionsunny_b_uk wrote:if you wana do it to your own samples then just pay attention to the mappings of the samples you purchasd and implement what you see onto your own samples, shouldnt even take as long as it took to write your message :p
And I get wordy when bored at work. History of the cuckoo clock when someone just asks what time it is.

Are the variations mapped to different velocities?

Hi
I'm Hugo from Goldbaby. Thought I might be able to shed some light on the Round Robin editing I did for EXS24. Basically it is all done with Groups that are chained together.
I use an application called Keymap Pro to create my EXS24 patches. Round Robin editing is so much easier with Keymap than doing it with EXS24.

1) Thanks for going out of your way to post here! I was on the verge of just sending an email but thought it might of been too basic a question, and thought I'd get eaten alive on gearslutz if I posted there. And since you mentioned the Groups, I saw them earlier but didn't even think to explore those further, just thought it was basic groups (BD, HH, etc.) and didn't pay attention to the different naming convetion.huggie wrote:Hi

2) Thanks for posting about Keymap, will be sure to check it out.
Will be sure to continue to buy your packs

Sorry I couldn't help you out, I havent worked a ton with the EXS24 (I really don't load things into a sampler that much, I mostly lay them out in the arrange view).
Glad you got help though
