Do You Ever Feel Like Something is Missing?
Lately I've been pumping out tunes that I've been fairly content with. But I'm looking for more.
Am I the only one in this boat? Or are you all with me?
This is a bit of a feedback thread, but in more depth. Please get in detail if need be with Mixdown, bass, etc. Anything helps!
Much love for the help!
These are three that I've recently finished that I feel need something more:
"Nawabi - Active"
Soundcloud
"Nawabi - Organic"
Soundcloud
"Nawabi - Sick of it"
Soundcloud

Try using loops from sites
such as Loopmasters for inspiration, and then take them out or replace them later.

i haven't listened to your tracks, but I bet it's something called atmosphere. This comes from white noise, heavy reverb, and many AUX/SEND layers. You really got to experiment with adding layers of sound that encompass little bits of the entire track all bussed together and then sidechained to something. I always think of it as creating "direct relationships" between elements of the track.
Edit after listens: Parallel compression and excitement can make anything sound big.

+1 on the white noise, always helps to fill out the higher end of the frequency spectrumAphile wrote:i haven't listened to your tracks, but I bet it's something called atmosphere. Re: Do You Ever Feel Like Something is Missing?
feedback delays/loops are also great for filling up a mix nicely.
set up delay---->
eq top and bottom out to taste( or bandpass it)------>
send to itself (be careful, it can be very easy to over do it here and blow either your speakers or you ears!)
then automate the amount you send to the delay as well as the amount you send to itself. Doing this as various points can add interest and help the transition between sections of the song.
For more swirly action modulate the eq and/or band pass filter slightly.

Lulz Dubstep Star? Youre a fool. And not another person has posted a tune for feedback in this. Also, thanks for the tips on white noise. I was never a huge fan of that hissing noise in the background but ill give it a shot. I do use a bit of delay and a lot of send returns for reverb but thanks for the input that helps a lot.

Re: Do You Ever Feel Like Something is Missing?
Tasteful use of reverb on certain channels can make your tracks sound bigger
For using white noise, don't overdo it, just let it sit nicely when building up or breaking down. Also play around with sidechain compression to really get certain elements pumping!
