8" Monitor Showdown Summary!

Post by FrostByte » Fri Feb 10, 2012 8:59 pm

Well after about 4 hours of listening to the studio monitor rack in Guitar Center, I concluded that the Yamaha HS80m's sounded the best for under $1000. The JBL LSR 8's lacked too much midrange, the KRK Rokit 8's sounded too compressed, the Mackie MS8's distorted way too much at higher volumes, the Adam AX8's were too expensive :( and I don't think I need to say much about any of the M-Audio monitors. If you guys want quality monitors without spending over $1000, check these out, they are amazing!

imo better than the krks and mackies, which are the only others i have enough experience with to comment on. But if you didnt check em your missing one of the most slept on quality monitors around.

I take it you mean 8 inch woofered monitors. (as opposed to 80mm which is about 4 inches or so)

Best I have heard Meyer HD-1, very nice, very expensive.

I did not. I might have to go find a location that carries those!

I'm pleased someone has FINALLY included the hs80m's in a monitor line up, let alone put them on top! I get a bit bored with everyone shouting "KRK ROKITS!!!"

I own the Yamaha's and I love them.

Shit cats though, not the cute fluffy ones.
I would do a Shaun Of The Dead on your ass if you did that. With the Swamp 81 catalog.

I would love 8" speakers for the bass response, but would I have to be careful with them in a smaller room? About 3.5m x 3m.

Cheers.
