Making headphones last

Post by inDistinkt » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:06 pm

It seems every pair of headphones I get always end up fucking up. It always gets to the point where the audio only come out one side unless I hold the cord firmly into my device (usually laptop). Through out the past I've always had shit headphones, but I got some Senns a few years ago. They lasted perfectly for a little over a year but eventually had the same fate. They still play fine to this day, but only if I hold the cord in place.

Anyways I have another pair now and I was wondering if anyones got any tips to prevent this from happening again. Does everyone eventually face this problem? Or am I doing something wrong? Maybe it has to do with how they're stored when not in use. I usually just place them on a table. I dont take the time to fold them up or wrap the wire neatly around it, but I do make sure it's not ll tangled up or anything.

ZOMG I’m going through this right now with a pair of Sennheiser HD 280’s :o Don’t care though, I will be buying the same brand again… Best pair I’ve ever had, might upgrade though...

I'd say don't wrap too tightly as well, always used to do that and I guess it stretches the metal cable inside, since I stopped my most recent pair have been going like 2 and a half years

ive pretty much come to terms with the fact with in ear headphones for my ipod i gotta buy new ones everye couple of months for djing i just keep them on this little hook when im not using them and coil he cable underneath it keeps them nice and not stretched best way really, all you need is like a bracket thingy from b&q and hang it on that simple.

I had some great Sony headphones once, which broke after about 6 months. Luckily they came with an MP3 so I wasn't bothered. I usually get poundland headphones and they're very hit and miss. Some last months, others last days. It's all part of the thrill I guess.

HD280's have replaceble cables , you just have to open the side where the cable goes in and solder ( is this the right english word? not sure) a new cable on there.

I bought a few pairs of in-ear sennhs and they kept losing audio in one ear after a few months. Bought myself a pair of portable headphones and they have been going strong for over a year. I just pop them in the bag they came with when I'm not using them and try not to tangle the wires.

Xone xd-40 cord won't break. Nice on-ear ones too, not like those ridiculously huge technics and what not.
