Buying new monitors

I am about to buy new KRK monitors, I was wondering you any of you had suggestions on whether I should go with the 5-6-or 8s I am leaning towards the 6s but I am worried they will lack in the Low end. I know everyone has their 2 cents on monitors so if you can give me other info on other brands I will look into them.

Any advice?

5s are definitely lacking in low end. Pretty accurate and honest monitors (except for the high mids - it tends to hype a lot of that) but I never know what my bass end of things is doing. I'll play out tunes I've mixed on just the 5s and sometimes the bass will be far too low, sometimes I have to turn the bass EQ down by almost half because it's so high!

Not sure about the 6s. I've heard they're the happy medium between the 5s clarity and the 8s boomy-mids-but-enough-bass-ness.

I have a pair of KRK Rokit 6 and I am pretty happy with them. I haven't ever owned another pair of monitors to compare them to. I have them in a small bedroom with weird slopped ceilings and I'm still able to get pretty good mix downs.

i have 6's. the bass is decent, but if you really want to feel it in your chest Id go for the 8's

Like Kaslo's experience, it's important to hear the mixdown work on different systems/mediums. At the end of the day, purchase what works for you at the time. Yes monitors are the best long-term investment you can make for the home studio, but don't run away with that statement and go buy something you can't tell the benefits of. In my bedroom, which is no bigger than 10X12 sq feet, I have KRK 8's. They are probably overkill, especially with the room untreated, but I love them and am very satisfied with the purchase.

8's no questions asked (even if you have to go 2nd hand or save a bit longer) for this kind of music I wouldn't want to monitor with anything less than an 8 inch driver (unless you are fortunate enough to have a sub!)

8's all the way! My mate has 6's and I have 8's and he hates how big the difference is! Don't get me wrong, 6's are great monitors, but IMO if your making "bass music", the lower response is essential.

got 6's getting 10s sub next week. You can get the 6s if you have decent headphones to mix with, but if you want to feel the bass too you should get the 10s. Also consider the yamaha HS80 with its desired sub, I only hear good things about them!

I understand that mixing environments are subjective based upon personal preference, but why would you want more bass in an environment which is untreated?

The whole purpose of getting monitors is to mix well consistently, not to shake your building's foundation. Not saying that you can't mix well in such an environment, but just saying why would most people do something counterproductive and could potentially make their production lives harder?

Wouldn't smaller drivers be sufficient in smaller, untreated spaces especially if they were good make? (A3X's)

This. Big bass with small room = shit mixdown. 6s should have enough bass for a untreated small room.
