What do you prefer to spin on?
What do you prefer to spin on?
It seems like since the explosion of Digital DJing there's been a lot of debate over whether if it's even "real" DJing or not.
In my opinion, growing up in the era of digital DJing I'd have to say that I love it. I think it's added a whole new dimension to what can be done in the booth which has given the DJ a new level of openness and creativity. However, I'm not the type of person to not learn about and show some respect to the roots of what I love so I can see how being a DJ before the rise of DDJing it would be really annoying to see some kid do in a few weeks what it took you a few months or even years to learn on a traditional setup.
What are your guys opinion's on DDJing and what's your preferred setup?

No one has any opinions here. Just a bunch of smartasses who occasionally listen to music.KONTRA wrote:Hardy har har..cityzen wrote:No option for thumb of sexual partner?? smh![]()

Re: What do you prefer to spin on?
Really depends on the venue and the gig... I play all three
Re: What do you prefer to spin on?
I started DJing on vinyl and don't really have any plans to change that. Might get Serato at some point but not in the near future.

I use CDJ's mainly because they are what are available to me most of the time... im just used to them now...

Nothin wrong with that. I've actually only had the option to work on digital setups so I really wanna get a good, but used pair of Pioneer 1000mk2's and like a used Numark M4 to start getting the hang of using CDJ's so when I start playin shows If the venue only has CDJ's, which is the most common setup here, I can still not only play, but play good.

I still don't get why some clubs only have CDJ's to play on. They are great to ADD to the Technics that should ALSO be there. It should be standard to have both.
my 2 cents.

Re: What do you prefer to spin on?
I would love to use vinyl, but it's so much hassle for what it's worth. Getting dubs cut or using DVS with a laptop are the only options if you want to play any of your own unreleased stuff and the rest of the time you're forking out a fair bit for released vinyl anyway. Maybe I'll switch back if I can afford it someday. And there just seems something a bit lame about going to do a DJ set and staring at a laptop sceen the whole time... CDJs for me!

I like the feel of vinyl but prefer the convenience of digital. Never been too fussed on CDJ's as the DDJ felt pretty much the same to me.

Re: What do you prefer to spin on?
Digital Dj is appealing to the younger people because they can just pirate their music and they think they can get better sounder quality by ripping it off youtube and converting to 320.
Vinyl is a nice way to support the artists and you know your music sound quality is top of the line if mastered correctly.
Also when you put down the needel on the record and you get that first little crackle is always nice to hear .

Being one of the "younger people" I'd have to say that this is generally true, but not entirely. Any mashup's, re-edits, remixes I've done I've either gotten the tracks off soundcloud as a free download or purchased the track off Beatport. I'm not gonna sit here and say I've never pirated a tune, but EVERYONE has at least once, but I fully agree with supporting an artist. So what you prefer doesn't really make a difference of how much you're supporting an artist just as long as you pay for what you play; a vinyl DJ, CDJ DJ, and a DDJ's money are just as green as anyone elses.

vinyl. made a point to get it as my first setup, been 2 months now or so
