how to fix record that over-spins?

Post by psychedelicfungus » Fri Feb 24, 2012 11:50 am

Got joy o boddika froth/mercy yesterday and froth plays fine but the flip spins around on the platter way too much , making beatmatching quite difficult.

I reckon its due to a slight warp so it is raised slightly on one side, causing a lack of friction.

Has anyone else had such problems and is there a way to sort it? Cheers

I usually try and bend it back a little the other way. Treat in gingerly. If that doesn't work mix with your hands on the label rather than the outside edge of the record. This will cause it to jump around less. Also try storing between a stack of records you know to be straight for a week or two.

i used to get a bit of roach or something and put it on the inside of the hole of the side that over spins, then put it on the deck.. that tightens it up... if that makes any sense at all.

Put small piece of sellotape (2cm x 2cm) over the hole, turn the record upside down and then force over the centre pin of a deck, so that some of the tape is forced into the hole. Take it off, tidy it up a bit and then put some more tape over the hole on the other side (I.e. not the one you started on). Repeat the process.

Eventually you'll build up enough tape in the hole to provide the friction that you're lacking due to the dished record. You can do it with a sticky label instead which works better cos it's thicker, but sellotape is less visible.
