Super noob question about EQ (Ableton)

Reading around i see a lot of things saying use a high pass filter on an EQ to roll off everything below 40hz on a kick drum.
I'm just a bit confused, on my EQ in Ableton it's called a "Low cut" but then i saw in my auto filter, it's actually called a "high pass filter"
Essentially this does the exact same thing right? I'm just wondering why two of the same things are called different names? or are they different?

If I use an auto filter over and EQ, or EQ over an auto filter to cut...it doesn't matter right?

A high pass filter will only allow the high frequencies to pass through it - it will cut out the low frequencies.

I know that, I'm wondering if there is a difference between a low cut and a high pass.

There isn't, just different terms for the same thing

Thanks bud! I also have one more question about sends. Say I have two kick drums I have compressed and sent them both to a bus channel over on the right side of abletons channels. My two channels on the left are kind of high...On the bus channels to the right where i sent my two kicks. There is a compressor on that bus, now my compressed bus of the two kicks only reads -6db for both my drums (which is about right) but my master is still peaking. I know its peaking because of the two kicks, but when you send them to a bus...isn't that where its all routed to? so my two kicks on the left shouldn't be peaking it? or are those channels on my right that i use as busses only mixing that with my originals on the left.

I apologize if this is confusing, but ableton has all their bus channels on the right and main channels on the left (to anyone who uses ableton) that's why i refer to left and right a lot.

And if it is just mixing my channels AND my bus together...is that what i want? I always thought that the bus you sent it too, should just be that bus producing sound now.

Sounds like each of your kick tracks have two sends going on.. one to the master output channel directly from each of the two kick tracks.. and one send from the bus your using to combine them.. Remove the output on both channels to the master output channel and just leave the sends to the bus. Should fix your problem
