13th Terminal - LGHT (experimental)

Post by grands0nz0rz » Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:05 pm

this is my latest 4 track EP. pretty proud about this one. not getting the support from the local scene that i would like. also majority of listeners don't get past the first track, but that is my fault. its the weakest of the bunch.
so listen, download and tell me what you think.

Reviewing as I listen.

First track:
It's quite difficult to catch the rhythm and the flow. But about halfway through.. I got there. The soundscape is really strong, but I'm not sure if that tempo shift just now ruined the song or not. :D

I'd put the slow part in the beginning and gradually shift to the faster pace, then end slow again.

Second track:
Sounds a lot more chaotic in the beginning. Strong and deep beat. Could've transitioned better into the break. Out of the break as well. Somewhat repetitive, but solid structure in the mid-part. And a not so sudden break, that's good. Back to the familiar theme. Wondering how it ends. Looks like a-- yeah; long fade. Overall a lot stronger than the first.

Third track:
Intro seems nice and bold. Building up really modestly. Sweeping.... And..... A really relaxed drop. Digging the bass. Really nice atmosphere as well. Soundscape is rather rich, but the the sweeping pad progression is getting really annoying by now. Could use some variety there. At last! Break. Also very relaxed, not much of a transition needed, even. Second half. Again, great soundscape, but the main pad is horribly repetitive. And break. Nice sequence and background texture. Halfway mark. Could've ended by now though. Okay... T minus ten.... Aaaand. Last sweep. Done.

Fourth track:
Fades in rather ominously, could use some low end there, maybe. Starting to resonate quite annoyingly.... A beat... Balances the high-register a little, but it's still really annoying. xD Bass fading in. Same background texture as in track #3. The kick could be a bit more prominent. I like the overall feel though. Could use this as a soundtrack in some really dark movie. Think Sin City.
I think I see a break coming. Finally some rest for the ears. :D But it's coming back, isn't it? Yeah, here we go again. It's a great track. Could've ended at about 4:30 though. I just realized how horribly panned the hihat must be. Glad I'm not using headphones right now. I'm starting to develop a love-hate relationship with that track.
God damn, it's repetitive. But it somehow works out. I would not intentionally listen to that EP. But it's awesome background music. The fade at the end was a bit cheap as well.

Overall... It was something different, I like that. Definitely keep experimenting. Good skill in your future projects!
"Ronin says:
Shit.
You're better off with BooBass or whatever the hell you use for cool music"

thanks for the feedback! and about repetition... i guess that is my main problem. i find something that sounds good to my ears and roll with it. for some time. and then some more. and more.
