can this be done??
k so I have this synth i made but its got 2 sounds to it. The prominent one and on a little pushed back in the sound(Im only usin 1 synthesizer). What im wondering is it possible to completely remove the prominent sound to have the more subtle sound as a seperate patch? Ive tried to remake it but couldnt get close enough for my liking. Ive tried to use the synthesizer itself to get rid of it, and ive tried resampling it although i have very little resampling experience.
Hopefully I can get this done with only reason and audacity? maybe
haha any help would be awsome
thanks

Re: can this be done??
split yo frequencies yo. Or, if you can pan the oscillators, send one to left, one to right, bounce a stereo and split in two mono files.

Re: can this be done??
damn thatd prob work haha but actually i got purdy dam close to the sound i wanted. thanks.
so im gonna jack my own thread cuz i have another problem with a synth in my same tune
. aight so i have a metallic womp sound that I split and put a distortion unit on the mids and highs to give it a harder sound. Its also has lfo wavetype and rate automated and its clipping massively. Ive tried to compress it with my very little knowledge of how to properly use compression for my circumstance. I do know what it is and does, but not entirely sure how to use it. everytime i try reading articles and tutorials its all so confusing to me. Ive managed to get good at mixing each sound so it doesnt peak, clip or clash so I havent really needed compression all that much. any help would be appreciated

Re: can this be done??
if its clipping turn it down more
you can use a bit of compression to smooth out the sound and get it sounding more solid, and then a tad bit of limiting to catch those peaks. but ideally you just want to turn it down to a reasonable level so its not peaking. its not really good practice to take something thats clipped to shit and just compress/limit it so its not.
also try turning down your shit at the beginning of the signal chain...ie right out of the synth or maybe its a scream4 thats making your shit too loud.

Re: can this be done??
scream gives me that great feel but ill try to make sonethin similiar with just the synthesizer. even if i turn it down it will still jump very high in volume and causing a muddy bass thump. It sound like its at the first of the note or the end of the note. not sure

Re: can this be done??
Why man? Maybe control the signal before it gets to the scream, and then maybe a little control coming out of scream should do the trick. Honestly, it sounds like you've got major problems with your gain staging. Read the moneyshot thread, it will make your life so much easier, and save you years of fucking up.Zkeeto wrote:scream gives me that great feel but ill try to make sonethin similiar with just the synthesizer.
Re: can this be done??
well I hardly ever get clippinng and when I do, I can usually stop it but this synth is clipping massively even after ive tried to stop it. Ive read the moneyshot thread several times. How would i control the signal? can you explain please?

edit
sorry stupid post i should have read more

If you've read (and understood) the moneyshot thread, you should know. You should be working at an appropriate level so that nothing comes even remotely close to clipping. If your sounds are that loud, you are working too loud. Turn everything down, and turn your speakers up. That is the first thing. It is really simple, some people, it seems, just cannot do this. I don't know why.Zkeeto wrote:well I hardly ever get clippinng and when I do, I can usually stop it but this synth is clipping massively even after ive tried to stop it. The second thing, if your sound is highly dynamic coming out of maelstrom, try a little compression and or limiting to reduce the peaks. Then run that signal into your fx like scream, and then if scream is increasing the dynamic range, then try a little more compression and or limiting to again reduce the peaks. Are you using extremely resonant filters?
Re: can this be done??
no, i have almost no res. I am working in low levels. I know the importance of gain and headroom. i dont think it has anything to do with that. even when i turn that sound way down to the point of not hearing it through the other sounds it will still massively jump in the main mixer. All my channels are given the appropriate levels and gain but this one sound is fucked

Fucked it is then!
