Hackintosh?
Sup, need to get a new computer soon and was wondering if anyone had any experience running a hackintosh system (mac running on pc components)?
I've done a bit of research and know there are forums for it but thought I'd ask here before I dive into the rabbit hole of another forum.

Re: Hackintosh?
I'm running osx on my netbook as I prefer it to windows, it's a little tricky to install it but once it's installed it works as well as my real MacBook

Re: Hackintosh?
check this website http://tonymacx86.com/ . They have alot of tips and prebuild configurations and installs. This is very handy because you know wich parts to buy. years ago Ive had osx 10.4 working on an old amd system and i only needed an usb audio wich i already had. It used to be hard to get it working but now it is alot easier. Good luck
Re: Hackintosh?
im building one, and selling off my imac.
Its going to be a quad core i5 with all the bells and whistles for around £600, which happens to be the same price I can sell my imac for.
And yeah i'm following tonymac's 'Golden builds' part of the forum as there’s in-depth guides on how people have configured their hardware etc... http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewforum.php?f=264
Im going to build it first and make sure I give it a 2 week run to make sure its all ok with everything, then selling the imac.

Re: Hackintosh?
So with this setup can you dual boot into windows as well as osx?
Re: Hackintosh?
yeah of course. either get a second internal HDD and install windows on it, or use mac osx's bootcamp utilitySkang wrote:So with this setup can you dual boot into windows as well as osx?
Re: Hackintosh?
that's clutch! That site looks like a wealth of information as well thanks

Re: Hackintosh?
That site is pure gold when it comes to the hackintosh.
@depone, let us know how the new hackintosh works out. I really would be interested in how stable you feel it is compared to the imac? and any other insight you may gain from the experience.

Thats just the processor chip.Electric_Head wrote:ic, I didn`t realize.
I thought it was all just intel now.
You gotta think about the motherboard, graphics card everything... People have been writing code for some time now to create drivers for these bits of gear so that the OSX can interface with them.
Lion. Its more stable than previous versionscrutch wrote:£600 for a top spec mac now that's what I'm looking for.Depone wrote:im building one, and selling off my imac.

Re: Hackintosh?
I've toyed with the idea of making a hackintosh before, but don't see that it'd give me any benefit apart from being able to run Logic. Is there any areas in which Logic is better than Cubase? Apart from stock plugins that is, i don't really use Cubase stock plugins anyway.
One feature i would like from Logic is 'bounce in place', Cubase doesn't have this, although its not hard to quickly render a part out. And other features include better sidechaining support. Apart from that i don't see any other reasons, but then i don't know much about Logic. Anything i'm missing?
